Forums - Gaming - Do gamers enjoy movies and books less than the average population?

I still yet to see a movie or play a game that's better then the bok it's based on.

Until then I will keep on read books.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

The problem is that most cut scenes and text in games are awful. I love to read and watch movies, and when games can reach the same level of quality in those areas, they'll be liked as much :).

I read a lot.I watch movies also, but not so much.I haven't been watching Tv more than 1 hour in half year..
I just got Artemis Fowl,Timeparadox which I read in 4 days.I also read Animorphs,Everworld, other Artemis Fowls and others..I read a lot manga also.
Movies?Hmm last one I watched was Get Smart...

Take my love, take my land..

I agree with the "if I wanted to watch a movie, I'd watch a movie" train of thought. I think gaming offers us something that no other medium does in the same way, interaction.

my movie collection would say different

I love books, and like good movies, but I do wish alot of games either put no plot at all, or had a much better plot.

No plot - Mario, Wii Sports, Sure, it's not Asimov, but it doesn't get in the way of a fun game

Stereotypical Shooters - have an annoying plot that gets in the way of the gameplay

Fire Emblem, Resident Evil (the early ones), Metroid, Brawl - Even if the gameplay was shit (which it isn't - it's awesome) you would play to find out the plot.

So yeah, some games need a better plot, and some need to scratch the plot completely

Oh yeah, there's also the 4th catagory - the ironic plot. This includes GH:Legends of Rock, Soul Calibur, F-zero etc

Movies are always good.

On a rare occasion, I've played some bad games just to see what happens in the end. Some of MGS4's cutscenes were really really good. Others had way too much talking, but I haven't played any other game in the series so I didn't really expect to understand most of it. I really like watching good cutscenes.

As for books.....just no. I couldn't ever read a book for entertainment. They're just much too dull for me. I did once years ago, and I'm still surprised about it.

i prefer reading a good fantasy book over a video game any day. The stories are a billion times better than ANY game has ever written.

Sure I love me some good RPG's but they don't even compare to the stories in books. Makes you wonder about the reviewers saying GTA4 was oscar worthy. I'm curious in what movies they are comparing to that won an oscar, and if they haven't read a book in ages.

i like films and books, mainly sci-fi and comedy films for me (and action) and i guess i havent read alot of books, i re read the ones i like often though, like LOTR and HDM
