Forums - Sony - Why does my DualShock 3 lose power even when it's not on?

So yesterday I was playing R:FoM for a while and finished for a while.  Instead of turning the system off, I just quit out of the game and left my PS3 running so I didn't have to turn it on again.  I distinctly remember turning my controller off and setting it down with the lights away from me.  All lights on the controller were off.

A few hours later I decided I wanted to play the game a little more and try to turn my PS3 controller back on.  I press the PS button and it's out of batteries.

Odd, well, I had been playing the game for a while and I had watched a movie the night before and I might have left the controller on so maybe it was just time to recharge.  I plug the controller in and do something else.

Today I start playing R:FoM again with my controller at full charge (I checked).  I play for about an hour or so and then quit and do other things.  When I quit I leave me PS3 on again because I'm just lazy like that but once again I make sure I turn my controller off and keep the lights facing me.  Everything is off.  I even check the battery level when I turn it off and it says it's full.

The lights on my controller have been off all evening so I assumed my controller still had a charge.  Just a few minutes ago I tried to play R:FoM and my controller is out of batteries again.

What the fuck!?

My controller has been off all day yet it's still losing charge.  Has anyone else had this problem?

I'd uniquely like to know this as, since my sixaxis rarely but certainly does this to.

Does it matter if your PS3 is on or off?  I think I've had this happen with my PS3 off though that could also be my imagination.  This is the only time I'm absolutely certain it had a charge and then ran out while it was off and my PS3 happened to be on.

I haven't had this problem. It is probably a faulty controller, I don't know what else it could be if you made sure to turn the controller off.

The fact that it's loosing power isn't a shocker, but it seems to be doing that WAY to fast. I think you might have a dud.... But who knows...

Maybe it's because you left the PS3 on?

There's an option where you can have you're controller turn itself off after being inactive for 10 minutes or so. Works great for me.

My sixaxis's didn't, maybe it's a problem with just the Dualshocks. Wouldn't surprise me if it was a major flaw they left in.

XMB > Settings > Power Settings > Controler power > On.
