Forums - Gaming - Will Microsoft target Nintendo in the next generation?

IMO, how could MS compete with Nintendo? They couldn't have created a game like Wii Fit in a hundred million years. They simply are not capable of thinking like that. Their only chance is that the well runs dry at Nintendo as far as new ideas go & MS gets a chance to copy, advertise, & undersell. But then they will be going up against some significant brand strength so it would only be the same old money for marketshare routine again.

I agree that they've already started - cutting price to $199 (below Wii's), advertising heavily that it comes with 5 free (and family friendly) games (compared to Wii's 1 game), launching NXE's avatars (like Wii's Miis) and heavily promoting titles like Scene It and You're In the Movies as family party games. While they are just starting in this market and have no chance of catching Wii, it will give them good experience which they will exploit with the next console.

I hope they licensed the xbox fight simulator in 'The Island'. I mean its not that difficult MS, just copy the movie dude

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

The thing is that Nintendo is a game company.... it's pretty hard to tackle it down if they don't do mistakes themselves. The reason is the unbeatable 1st party offering.

Nintendo was still profitable with the N64 and the GC, MS won't change that on Wii 2.

I think next gen, MS might try to move closer to Nintendo, but they don't have the assurance yet to try and topple them. Sony could have done something this gen to seriously harm Nintendo... but they played the wrong card and won't be able to do anything similar until they have an other PS2...

I'm not talking market share, I'm talking destroying the gaming division of the concurent company and sending them 3rd party.

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

I think MS want to be the fist place not only the second place in this generation. In 2009 i think MS have a plan to marketing share from Wii (50% of all). the last time when i sign in to Xbox live i saw many casual games they called avartar games MS just add this on new dashboard (NXE).

Now, they're trying to remake a lot of casual games to XBLA by bring the popular game from Nintendo DS such as Yosumin from Squre Enix and so many game on DS but i can't remember.

They're stealing casual gamers from Wii. If they can do this i think MS can do marketing share from Wii and maybe they can bring 360 to the first place within 3 years.

They are targeting them now, have you ever seen so much Japan development support for the losing Japanese platform before?

I'm of course talking about titles that obviously sell well in Japan for the most part. ^_^

I'm shocked Monster Hunter Tri wasn't Xbox 360 exclusive. V_V... That probably would of driven me to get one.. dispite my fear or the RROD.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

Ill tell you why im not worried. MS have never made anything, well maybe windows 2000, that genuinly made me go , wow.

If a company with that much money and over 20 yrs of software experience can't develop a game thats not even the equivalent to Nintendo's games i wouldn't worry.

They can target wii any time they want even this generation.

All they need is casual friendly games with simplified controlers.

Wouldn't they also want to have a casual friendly console in that mix?

MS can target Nintendo all they want, but if there aim is to take nintendo out than that will most likely be a failure.

I TAKE NO SIDES

I believe it was Nintendo's decision from the begginning to not target the same consumers as the XBOX360 and PS3. Therefore, MS would have a tough time this generation stealing away Nintendo's customers because their consoles are geared towards different consumers. Whether or not that changes next generation is dependant on if MS or Nintendo changes thier busieness practices.
