Forums - General - Ground troops in Gaza. Give me one good reason why this is needed?

Scene from Full Metal Jacket, Stanley Kubrick

Pogue Colonel: Marine, what is that button on your body armor?
Private Joker: A peace symbol, sir.
Pogue Colonel: Where'd you get it?
Private Joker: I don't remember, sir.
Pogue Colonel: What is that you've got written on your helmet?
Private Joker: "Born to Kill", sir.
Pogue Colonel: You write "Born to Kill" on your helmet and you wear a peace button. What's that supposed to be, some kind of sick joke?
Private Joker: No, sir.
Pogue Colonel: You'd better get your head and your ass wired together, or I will take a giant shit on you.
Private Joker: Yes, sir.
Pogue Colonel: Now answer my question or you'll be standing tall before the man.
Private Joker: I think I was trying to suggest something about the duality of man, sir.
Pogue Colonel: The what?
Private Joker: The duality of man. The Jungian thing, sir.
Pogue Colonel: Whose side are you on, son?
Private Joker: Our side, sir.

Don't you get it? the duality of men suggests that we are all capable of good and evil. We should not deny ourselves the capacity to honestly consider what side we are on because we all change sides.

If you honestly believe that the reason civilians are dying in Gaza is solely due to Hamas's responsibility, and not Israels excessive use of bombs or the US's complete and uncritical support both through political and weapon supplys, then you are denying the very possibility that you might ever be wrong about anything.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

^^^I knew you couldn't do it!  At least you are honest of your intentions.

If your going to harrass people and insist that we admit (i do) that Hamas's criminal actions are reprehensible shouldn't you, in some form of capacity for self reflection, at least consider that Israel themselves have made the situation worse.

That jungian thing aint workin out for you just yet i guess.

You never asked me before, but now that you have, absolutely.

So what "jungian" psychoanalysis are you refering to?  You asked me a direct question, and I provided a direct answer... so it looks like whatever point you were trying to make didn't work out quite as you planned.

Now back to my question... a simple response is all that is neccesary;

Do you admit, now that you have heard with your own ears, from Hamas' own mouth, that they do indeed use women and children as human shields?  You said that I was incorrect, so I just want to hear directly from you that I was right when I said this, and that it isn't an urban legend.  So is it safe to assume that you agree that Hamas does purposely use children as human shields?  Yes or no.

And its not about psychoanalysis, its about being realistic. Nobody, no australian, american, european, african, jew or asian is completely innocent.

Its not about race, though cleverly you (in my case atleast) have made it about this, but it is about killing people and why it is wrong IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.

What makes it monumentally worse, and this is my point about Full Metal Jacket, is that to never admit, or be self critical about the decisions your own government makes, is just wrong.

You might want to sit down for my next comment... are you ready?  Full Metal Jacket is just a movie, it's not real life... I know it seems real, but trust me, it's just a Hollywood production.  So come back to reality just for a moment.

Fathi Hammad's EXACT words are as follows:

The enemies of Allah do not know that the Palestinain people has developed its methods of death and death-seeking.  For the Palestinian people, death has become an industry, at which women excel, and so do all the people living in this land.  The elderly excel at this, and so do the mujahideen and the children. This is why they have formed human shields of the women, the children, the elderly, and the mujahideen, in order to challenge the Zionist bombing machine.  It is as if they were saying to the Zionist enemy:

"We desire death like you desire life."

Give your moral equivalency speech a rest brother.  Jews do not send their children to the front lines and hide behind their children, nor do they use their children as PR tools.  Would you like to know what Hamas did when Israel tried to warn the people of the airstrikes on Nizar Rayan? They called the people.. the women and children to come to his house to be human shields, so that if he died, they would die with him.  If you don't believe me, I can prove this one to you as well (with a another video of him saying this).

No, there is a huge difference between what the Israeli and the Palestinians believe.  Israelis believe in life, and the Palestinians embrace death.  Once again, I didn't say this, Hamas said this, so don't point any fingers at me.

^^^ Feel free to stop anytime you'd like, or jump back in at will as well.

As long as this thread stays factual, then there is nothing wrong with this conversation. I've stated this 100 times before, but I'll say it again just for your own ears. Two of my very best friends in life (and I don't have that many friends really anyway) are Palestinians, so I hold no ill will towards Palestinians as a group. But I will always have problems with specific people of any ethnic group (including and especially my own) who don't value the commodity of life.

If a Jew straps a bomb to himself and runs onto a bus of Muslim children, I would be the first person to scream in anger... I do not defend anyone for crimes against (especially) children. There is no excuse for it; none whatsoever.

When Jewish terrorist Eden Natan-Zada murdered Arabs, I spit on his existence as well. So I am an equal-opportunity hater of terrorism.
