Um... why?
I'm not saying that Smash was the game of the year, But I do think that if it had come out later it would have seen more nominations in certain categories (not that any Wii game really has a chance given the large roll that graphics play).
As for the second part, We know we're getting Pikmin 3, Sin and Punishment 2, Punch Out in 2009 and know that other mega franchises are in the works. I'm not saying these will be games of the year either, but if I understand the OP correctly, I think he's talking about Nintendo the software company, and not Nintendo the system and all games on it. And is it really right to complain that a single company isn't making enough "Game of the year" titles?

We have a *right* to complain if our system is giving us enough game of the year titles. And the problem isn't that the wii had a ton of 85-90 games and not any 95+ games, its that it had few 80+ games last year and the goty awards just show part of it.
