Forums - Nintendo - Playing Wii on a Computer Monitor

So I want to be able to play my Wii in my room (which doesn't have a TV) and I'm not exactly sure how to hook up my Wii to my computer monitor. I know there are a lot of converters out there but they seem quite expensive. I am also unsure how to get the audio to work if I were to use these converter cables/boxes.

Also, I checked the back of my computer and I have ports where I can plug in my Wii composite cables. Is there anyway to get my computer to display what my Wii is inputting? Also, if this were possible, would there be considerable lag?

I'm looking for a cheap, easy method that is at least reasonable to play games on.

Thanks everybody so much in advance.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Well thanks for the reply!

If I buy that, do I need to buy any other cables with that?

If your monitor allows composite cables get the Wii composite cables and your set. Just check your monitor can display 480p, should do but you never know.

No lag.

Audio cables can go into monitor if it has speakers, if not a cheap set of speakers should be ok.

um, that particuler one is not HD, but if you are just using your Wii, then no. Should come with some plugs and such. Only thing you will need is a VGA cord, which your monitor should already have.

@pyro

My monitor doesn't allow comp. cables but my computer does (I plug it into the back of the box) but I'm not sure how to get the Wii input displayed on the monitor

@bigjohn

ok thanks. I'm gonna seriously look into that. I am still a bit unsure about the whole audio aspect because the composite audio cables arn't standard "headphone" cables (so do I need to buy some sort of converter?)

this is the cheapest way to go.

what you will do is plug your VGA cord into the box instead of your PC, then you plug your Wii into the box, plug in the box, and essential, the box will turn you monitor into a TV, if you have cable you can even plug that into the box.

The composite sockets on your PC might be for output not input. I used to use composite to VGA converter and then used the VGA to the monitor.

Does your monitor have any other inputs other than VGA or DVI?

Yep I understand that with the box (and I will prob. buy it now). But I just wanna test (if it's possible) to have the Wii input going into the computer and then the computer displaying the input from the Wii.

@pyro
I checked that they were for input. Do you know how I could use the computer to display that input onto the monitor?

And also, no my monitor only has VGA and DVI.
