"Awesome graphics! And those little sack people are so cute I could just eat them up! Now where's the game?"

If that doesn't prove how stupid this list is, I don't know what does. The game is right there. Try playing it.

haha. It does seem true. I've never really heard of Variety. What do they do?

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

So... LBP is overrated because they're too lazy to make their own level?

No, LBP is overrated because they basicly said the gameplay was borring and building levels isn't their idea of fun.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

So it's an overrated game because they don't like it, even though the majority of people do? Hmm...

Actually, if you play close attention to each one, they don't really talk about gameplay basically at all. It's all "I don't want to make levels, I don't have free time!" or "That's the developpers job!"

"A niche game for budding game designers, disguised as an all-ages, endless dreamscape. And here’s a question: why do the games that bet big on user-generated content consistently expect users to dive into specialized skills such as platformer level design, puzzlecrafting, or 3-D modeling, when the two types of content that real life people actually put on the web – text, and photographs – are neglected?"

Nothing about gameplay - Not even sure what he is talking about at all.

"It's adorable, I'm heartened by the vision behind it and couldn't be more impressed with Media Molecule and its beautiful execution. But at the end of the day, I'm a fan of video games because I want the professionals to make them for me. I don't want to make video games, I don't really care what my "friends from the Internet" have made, and I often wonder how many people really do care -- and how many people just leapt on board the bandwagon of positive sentiment surrounding an effort they admired."

Nothing about gameplay.

"Awesome graphics! And those little sack people are so cute I could just eat them up! Now where's the game?"

Just plain nothing.

"The ultimate problem with “LittleBigPlanet” is that it’s impressive, but nothing more. Wow, sackboy is cute. Damn, those level-building tools are remarkably easy to use. Holy cow, that user created level looks just like a working calculator / a lamborghini / “Duck Hunt” / “God of War.” But there’s nothing remotely engaging about the experience, unless you’re in that small minority with dozens of hours to kill and the desire to make an awesome"

I guess he says it's not engaging, but he's really only talking about user-made content.

Well, that's pretty much the definition of overrated. A game being more popular then you think it should be.

Oh, and Aj_hanfan, if they don't talk about the gameplay, you have to assume that it's not worth talking about. If they thought it had awesome gameplay, they'd say it. They aren't the only people to comment on how the platforming gameplay element wasn't a lot of fun.

It's a sad day when people actually read Variety for game reviews.

I suppose the days of Soccer Mom making game purchases has finally come

Yeah, FINALLY.  I'm sick of all these hardcore gamers like us being born with steady incomes so we could buy our own games.

seems fine, tho I did enjoy Professor Layton

Lord, they badmouthed Professor Layton. I didn't know that was even allowed.
