Forums - Nintendo - Will you be satisfied with a 720p Wii 2?

@11ht- You like doing that kinda stuff to me dont you?

To be honest I don't know that much about this stuff, and I don;t even know how big of a difference that would be. I play my wii on a 26" HDTV and I think it looks good, but I would welcome anything better.

Support good third party games on wii. Buy games like house of the dead overkill, de blob, madworld, the conduit and boom blox.

to the op, for me yes 720p gets the job done but to release yet another console that is years behind in technology is bad. I don't want to take anything away from the Wii because the sales have been amazing, but it is still a niche/casual console for most.  Next gen I will only buy the Wii2 and only if my yearly games i.e. madden, fifa, nhl, ect. are playable in full form as are on 360 and ps3.  I also hope the wii2 has a standardized controller to go with the console out of the box and the nunchuck as an option.  Lastly, it better freakin have a hard drive.

I would be happy if it did do 720p but by that time why not just go all the way to 1080p. It would make more sense if they just added what the wii is missing now and sell that.

i am fine with current Wii, i am sure next gen ninty will produce some sort of an HD console and 720 would be a minimum.

Lol 3000$ 60' TV, Affordable? WOW dude i dont think you are aware of current financial state in 95% of households in the World.

I am personally interested in whatever technology they use to reach their performance and packaging requirements. The technology and design of the Wii HD will be interesting because above all else it must be power efficient. Theres the fact that they will probably need to use a conventional architecture for the GPU for the first time and that makes me wonder if they will use something like an all AMD system with what is essentially a tweaked laptop CPU+GPU combination.

Its unfortunate that car journalists will give a 10 page brief to some me-too sports car but barely spend 3 pages on the technology inside the most important car in the world, the Corolla where 100x the people will buy and use the vehicle. In a way Nintendo is following the lead of other Japanese companies in that real people, your typical every day people are important to them and you can see it in the care they put into their "boring" car ranges.

I believe Nintendo has renewed their contract with IBM and ATI, and if i had to make a bet, the Wii HD is going to be very similar to the Xbox 360 in terms of architecture (multicore PowerPC based CPU), if slightly more powerful (same CPU clock, say, but with 1 GB of RAM instead of 512 MB)

If you want to see the future of Nintendo consoles, though, look at the DSi. I've said that the DSi is a "half-generation upgrade," and thus is a rare glimpse into how Nintendo plans to upgrade their "disruptor" generation of platforms

Do you have a link handy for the IBM + ATI development? If not thats fine, im just interested.

I prefer the "Phaser" theory about Nintendo market strategy over the "Disrupter" theory. To be quite frank I distrust the proponents of "Disrupter" theory and question their motives. But I can see how they would benifit from releasing an updated Wii.

They could these with an updated Wii+:

  • Incorperate Wii motion + into the console
  • Include HDMI output and build in a scaler chip to give better images on HD TVs
  • Increase the ram/flash storage to allow for faster loading and a wider range of services to be offered on the system.

I call it my *3 I* theory or *iii* for short..

Tease.

Most people here still don't get why Wii has become a runaway success this generation. If Wii keeps on selling like it is year after year, you will never see a HD Wii.

I mostly agree.  Splitting hairs, but I wouldn't say never, just that 4 years is too short...  It just will not be until sales slow...  That could either be due to saturation of the market, or sales of HD competition approaches the sales of the Wii...  my guess is 10 years...

There is a slight chance Nintendo will release a HD version prior to that.  However, they have long term plans and that is part of planned obsolecence.  They will not release it until they need to...  The next model of the Wii is likely to only fix the storage issue, and not change anything graphic wise.

720p would be fine with me.

I didnt think we were talking the world. I'm taking about gamers in particular who are griping they can't afford an HDTV. Like i said, you can get a 60' tv for under 2k, you can easily set that aside over the course of the year. If you work, pack your lunch a couple times a week instead of eating out everyday, work overtime at your job, get a part time job or whatever. Money is not hard to save.

Had to change my sig to get some moderator to quit bitching about it......
