I don't think SSBB is overrated, but I don't think is a fighting game neither, I mean, games like Smash Bros. or Power Stone are more party games than fighting games for me...

thats because you don't know anything about the competitive side of the game....go to a tourney and then say it's not a fighting game.  but, i can see why casuals would think it's a party game

Whoa, it's difficult for my to reply this in english xD, I'll try:

@chriscox1121: I actually know about the depth of the game but Smash Bros. was meant to be played as a party game not as a "serious" fighting game like Virtua Fighter, even if you play SSB en Final Destination without items.

And don't get me wrong, I love Smash Brothers I've played them all with my friends since N64 times and are funny as hell.

Yeah, we get it. Multiple button combos give a game depth. Right. Your argument has been stated to death and it still fails. Smash is a fighter regardless of the methodology used to classify a fighting game. You get an F for effort and must repeat fighter class 101.

Ok, you're right, is a fighting game, just as Power Stone or Wrestling games.

I suppose the discussion about Smash Bros being a fighting game is similar to the discussion of Zelda being a RPG, is subjective to each one's opinion.

Around the Network

anyone saying the ssb series is more of a party series has failed to see the most competitive fighting game ever made (melee).
Anyone saying that about brawl hasn't gone deep enough.

melee:

brawl:

that isn't the best brawl match but the most recent good one i've seen.

Underrated, atleast in GOTY awards since everyone seems to have forgotten it was released this year.

Either way, it's not overrated, no.

brawl is still my most played game after 9 months from launch..so it´s not overrated for me.

wii fc : 7188 5379 1382 7074
smash fc :2234 6924 8637

I think Melee is a bit overrated. Brawl, however, is not.

Around the Network

no! (neither is the other games in that series!)

Virtua Fighter is overrated

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I think brawl blows major chunks, but I can see why it's rated so high. It's a great game throughout. And offers a very unique experience which helps define the Nintendo way of gaming. Not overrated.

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

I don't like it very much at all. Soul Calibur 4 was a lot better and Street Fighter 4 will undoubtedly blow them both away.

^no.........
