Forums - Gaming - Is Super Smash Bros Brawl the most overrated fighting game of all time?

SSBB is the best version of the game, yet some people still claim that Melee is better ( i really dont get that). No it's definately one of the best fighting games ever, it's just different from Tekken, SC or Virtua Fighter, that's why some people might not like it.

^ that why on earth would people think melee is better I own melee also and have put hundreds of hours into it.  The things brawl bring to the table from the beautiful cutscenes, new modes, online, new charcters, and custom stages.  That's just a riduclous ploy by people in need of attention and like controversy IMO.

Seriously guys brawl is an amazingly fun game.  I play online like 2-3 times a week and always play a few rounds if I have friends over.  The game is pure fun and you cant beat how many unlockables as brawl has.

I would actually disagree, I think Brawl is most certainly GOTY material, it was definitely mine. I wasn't a fan of Melee (gasp!) I loved the Original and Melee..kinda let me down. Brawl is much more precise, much more balanced, and much..well better. I play online daily, and don't experience the crazy lag many folks say they have. I guess I'm just lucky. My boy posts matches on youtube, we're not torny competitive players but within the circle we are very competitive, and most importantly, the game is crazy fun.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

Nope.

If anything, it's underrated.

It really isn't.

Most overrated though? Probably DoA, in the sense that people actually treat it as if it's a serious competitive game.

Who hypes up DoA?  I think the perceived hype for DoA is like the Halo Killer comment.  It is perceived to be out there in large numbers, but isn't.  DoA exists, but no one really talks about it at all.  Tekken is arguably overrated if you want to discuss a game hyped.

In regards to this discussion on quality of fighters, I would have to bring up Virtua Fighter and ask about it.  It seems to be arguably underrated, and hardly discussed.  It is praised in passing, but isn't played as much as Smash Bros.  Smash Bros. seriously gets played a lot and has a cult following behind it.

I do believe Smash Bros. IS a fighting game the way Powerstone is.  Brawl games using weapons.  A different niche of fighting games than Street Fighter and so on.  Also, wrestling would fit in here, and that is another niche of fighting games to, as is boxing.

And how many of the pro tourneys have items on in the rules?

Not at all.

Nintendo still doomed?
Feel free to add me on 3DS or Switch! (PM me if you do ^-^)

I'd go as far as to say that Brawl is one of the most overrated games of all time regardless of genre. I think that if you removed the Nintendo characters and replaced them with stick figures the sales would drop by 95% and the review scores would drop below 80%. I just don't understand the appeal of the franchise at all, but then again, I never really liked beat 'em up games all that much.

I don't think SSBB is overrated, but I don't think is a fighting game neither, I mean, games like Smash Bros. or Power Stone are more party games than fighting games for me...

thats because you don't know anything about the competitive side of the game....go to a tourney and then say it's not a fighting game.  but, i can see why casuals would think it's a party game

Whoa, it's difficult for my to reply this in english xD, I'll try:

@chriscox1121: I actually know about the depth of the game but Smash Bros. was meant to be played as a party game not as a "serious" fighting game like Virtua Fighter, even if you play SSB en Final Destination without items.

And don't get me wrong, I love Smash Brothers I've played them all with my friends since N64 times and are funny as hell.

sakuria didn't really want any of his games competitive, but the players made it that way...they found advance techs to make the game be competitive.....if memory serves me correct...melee had one of the biggest turnout of MLG

I'd go as far as to say that God of War is one of the most overrated games of all time regardless of genre.
