Forums - Sony - Polyphony president: 2009 is still target for GT5 but may not make it

@Squilliam: Fine, but that's all irrelevant to my original point. If you read the OP, you saw that PD is saying they're working on this game and nothing else, when in fact they were doing other things at the same time. Apparently they aren't even sure they can get the game out in 2009, so they should rather focus on getting GT5 done IMO.

It's not a problem for me because I'm not waiting for this game, but I thought I'd point it out since I recalled this piece of news.

Theres a huge fear of this game underperforming though. Theres been 4 years in development going on 5 years and a ton of money spent on it. The problem i see with the game is not that it wont so much live up to the sale expectionation, but of the game expectation in itself.

They really have to get the game out and stop fecking around with Prologue's. This could really help the PS3's sales for this years holiday season.

everything in prologue is coming to GT5 so any updates for prologue benefit GT5.

Its unlikely to be the programmers that are holding the games release up. The massive number of cars and the sheer quantity of media content still to be created are the likely candidates for why the game may miss the 2009 release. Keeping a project like this running and keeping everyone busy is quite a huge undertaking they likely did it because they knew it wouldn't delay the all important release.

Tease.

Teach those programmers to make cars and track backgrounds! ;) jk

Sony should definitely get this game out. It's one of the best system sellers and cash cows the Playstation has.

However, I don't buy that they're really as hard at work as they could, since I remember these news:

http://www.kotaku.com.au/games/2008/11/gran_turismo_5_prologue_running_at_240_fps__3840_x_2160_resolution.html

Looks to me like they were dicking around with technological masturbation instead of focusing on the core game.

I don't buy it either.  I think they are playing the media just like every other console/publisher does.  They are waiting to release GT5 on the breakeven year when there will be a price cut to help push even more unit sales.  Good strategy and a good way to keep their premeir game in the news headlines all year.

plus the reason why they release the prologue is to make money off of a pre-build demo that they might otherwise use as a large beta. Prologue means you basically just payed to be in the non-interactive beta. nice way to milk their cash cow aye?

Gran Turismo 5: Forever, starring a cigar smoking, butt kicking protagonist with the name Duke!

My firend bought a PSP in 2006 anticipating the release for Gran Turismo Portable. GT5 will definitely be released before it. So it would be more like Gran Turismo Portable Forever.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

although unlikely, imagine the best cast scenario for Sony fans holiday 09.

FFXIII and GT5.... dear lord how sweet would that be, not to mention all the other games.

̶3̶R̶D̶   2ND! Place has never been so sweet.

No GT5 in 2009 means no need for me to get a ps3 ever... Id rather save my dough in 2010 for the 720 :)

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.
