"it is the most powerful so dont deny it"

Sorry buddy, it's not.  Not for gaming anyways.  The PS3's design is a mess.  Next time you want someone to read your post, don't put them off by saying stupid things like this.  If you really wanna argue this point i'm sure I can do 5 minutes of research to show you exactly why the ps3 is a pos compared to the 360, even though in general it uses "better" equipment.  Heck, except for the increase in space, even using blu-ray is worse for gaming compared to a dvd.  However, you're obviously a fanboy who can't be bothered to do 5 minutes of research, so i'm sorry for wasting 1 minute of your time reading this post.

This is Not Fact. There was a thread on this before and it got debunked. Ive heard that the PS3 is more powerful and is used in world supercomputers and Ive heard these things from some very educated people, even those who designed components like the Cell. How do you know better than them? And I think its wrong to call the PS3s design a mess when Visual stunners like Uncharted (2), Killzone 2, GT5(p), GoW3 etc are all exclusive on the system. And I certainly wouldn't call it a mess with MGS4 being made on it, and If it wasnt for Blu-Ray, MGS4 wouldn't of been as good.

Sony 10 year plan was base on the ps3 having the same success as the ps2 and the ps1. Lifespan is dictated by market share not personal dream and wants.

I TAKE NO SIDES

Consumers looking for the most powerful console

Will be supplanted once the next generation is released, whether it be from Sony or another company.

Consumers looking for a cheap HD format player

The PS3 really isn't the cheap option anymore.

Consumers not bothered about power, but plenty of games and a cheap system

Those consumers have already chosen and will chose the Wii.

When the next generation begins the PS3 will be in the awkward position where it will no longer be that ideal of a system for cross platform development with the PC or other consoles, its userbase and rate of sales would not be great enough to encourage a lot of exclusive development, its technology will be outdated and its selling features will be readily available on new platforms, and there will be years of bad news about how unpopular and overpriced the PS3 is that will have worked its way into the public conscience.

Graphics don't matter that much.

In term of sales, I agree. Also, judging by the Wii's success, gameplay doesn't matter either.

The Wii's gameplay is used to attract a new userbase. Not the minority who love gaming normally. Open minded gamers benefit from the Wii when playing with non gamers. The Wii's gameplay is what it is, and people appreciate it. Case closed. It's obviously a party system.

This thread should have been titled "I figured out why Sony is going for a ten year plan with the PS3" and the OP should have ended with "It makes perfect sense". I hate to see so much potential being wasted.

Not everyone is as apparent as you.

For the poster: No matter what Sony does this gen Microsoft will be at their throat at every turn and the Wii will hit 100 M way before the end setting records over even the PS2. Microsoft announced that it changed the 360's life expectancy to 1up Sony's 10 year plan. It's been foiled before it started. Sony doesn't always make the best hardware. The PS2 had the least quality out of both the gamecube and the Xbox graphics-wise. It's quality was in the DVD player and the games. Your views on quality are quite biased.

I supposse Sony can try to "sell" the idea that the PS3 is really a next-gen console released 5 years ahead of its competitors, so then by 2012 it will have a big userbase compared to its competitors. However, for that to work it would have to upgrade its controls to compete with WiiHD and Xbox720 motion controllers, and it would take a extremelly great game to have older PS3 owners upgrade and buy the new controls.

It's a mess because it was designed poorly.  There are things about the system that could be taken advantage of better if other aspects of the system didn't suck.  The components of the ps3 just don't mesh as well as the 360s.  And of course some games are gonna look good.  It's not like it's a minor upgrade to the ps2.  But if you look at all the games that were cancelled for the ps3 because of development problems, or the amount of games that were delayed/don't work as well as the 360 versions... it's almost comical.  Sony severely screwed up this generation.  They're going to need to do better next generation or they may be kicked out of the console race.  I honestly do hope they do better next time.  I'm not just some 360 fanboy bashing the ps3.  Before this generation launched I didn't even think i'd own a ps3.  However, sony did just about everything in it's power to make sure I bought a 360 before I bought my ps3.  If it wasn't for bluray, I wouldn't have even bothered this generation.  FF13 woulda been the last nail in that coffin if I had just waited.

What do you guys think? I think if this is the 10 year plan Sony has made - I love it, whether it works or fails, you've got to respect them for risking it and trying a new tactic.

1. It wont be the most powerful console if MS and ninty release new systems.

2. Dedciated players will be far under $150 by 2010-2012

3. Then why wouldnt they pick up a 360 or Wii? Remember that the PS2 outsold the 360 during its first year on the market.

Anyways, what the 10 year plan meant wasn't what you just laid out. They meant it in the same vein that the PS1 had a ten year life, or how the PS2 is nearing 10 years. That is to say you replace the system in your primary market and sell the previous one as a discount system all the while you can continue to push the older system in undeveloped markets.
