Forums - Sales Discussion - Prediction: PS3 will sell 100 mln. by the end of 2012

@ starcraft

Prominent reasons include games being produced for consoles with large userbases. The PS3 having the smallest userbase ironically means it's userbase is the least likely to grow.

All 3rd party 360 top 25 best sellers are also on the PS3. The PS3 user base is already sizeable at nearly 20 million users, so this trend is IMO likely to continue. The PS3 user base is now more relevant than ever.

The PS3 line-up last year saw more and better quality exclusives. This trend seems to be continuing for this year as well.

Then there is the fact that (assuming the Wii sorts its supply issues) the PS3 will ALWAYS be more expensive than the other consoles.

Yes, the PS3 will always stay more expensive to produce than a 360 or a Wii (like a low spec PC is cheaper to make than a high spec PC). But as price comes down more and more, the difference in retail pricing becomes less and less of a crucial factor.

I mean a 100 dollar 360 vs a 200 dollar PS3 is less of an issue for the PS3 than a 200 dollar 360 vs 400 dollar PS3. Games for both systems are similarly expensive (and the 360 has a lot of hidden costs, my Nintendo DS has Wi-Fi, on the 360 you pay 60 Euro just for such a simple feature, for the price of a 120 GB 360 harddrive you can buy a 320 GB harddrive on the PS3, pay extra on the 360 to play online, etc also the 360 is not Blu-Ray compatible for the best quality HD movie playback and is lower specced for games (default harddrive, Blu-Ray and the Cell).

PS3 vs 360 sales

In any case, Sony cannot afford to take the PS3 to $299 anytime in 2009.
How MUCH Home/PSN brings money? How much BLU-RAY bring money?
Even if they could, Xbox 360 purchasers have shown us that $199, not $299 is the golden pricepoint.
1) x360 has 3FIXME problem.
2) PS3 has MORE value, then x360
3) x360 DON`T have PLAYSTATION 120-140 mln. userbase.
Er, it does. It already has.
BELIEVE.
The same is true of the Xbox 360, which has already taken more market share than the PS3, and there is no reason this will reverse.
NOT in Europe.
Japan - FAIL.
Only in NA, but that is NOT enough. =)
Thats because the PS2 had exclusive third party support. The PS3 has none left.
Yeah, sure. =)
PS3 has STRONG 1st+2nd party support. THAT support is BIGGER, then x360+Wii combined.
It is getting NO exclusive third party support from here on out.
Yakuza 3
FFXIII:Versus
Quantum Theory
Demon`s Soul
Next Cyber Connect Game

Japan FTW! =)

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

no way. seriously.... are you being serious Crazzy? There is no way it will ever sell that much in Japan.

Also, let me ask you, when was the last time you didnt wildy over-predic anything playstation related?

There is something that really confuses me about you Mike.  You're clearly an intelligent guy.  So why, in the face of all evidence, trends and observable facts, do you continue to argue that raw computing power that amounts to only a small advantage over the Xbox 360 will result in a sales explosion the likes of which has never been seen in the gaming industry?

Why is the one factor that has had no substantial impact on either of the last two generations the one that convinces you that the console with the least going for it as we move forward will suddenly lead to a cataclysmic (for the Wii and Xbox 360) comeback for the PS3?

PRICECUT+KZ2+FFXIII+GT5 = MOMENTUM.

PS3 STILL COST 400$, that is ABOVE PS2 launch price. THat is MOST expensive console on the market.
- The other most prominent reason is the "what my friend's have got" phenomenon, seen at play with the Wii, and with Xbox live on the Xbox 360.
Yeah, 25 mln. x360 owners will make big difference,
while Wii and PS3 can co-exist. Since PS3 is a HD console, while Wii is SD, but with motion controls.
- Then there is the fact that (assuming the Wii sorts its supply issues) the PS3 will ALWAYS be more expensive than the other consoles.
AFTER reaching 299$, especially 199$, it won`t matter anymore.
SEE PS2 - xbox - GC PRICE WAR. GC costed less then PS2, it still sold less.
PS3 is still getting BIG 3rd party support. =)

YOU FAIL.

Crazzyman truly believes PS3 must be the continuation of PS2.

The raw system specs difference between the 360 and PS3 are actually pretty huge for the long run. I think many hardcore 360 fans will want to buy a PS3 as well (no matter if many say they vomit of the idea currently,

Believe me, nearly all low level programmers who worked with both systems will agree to this, some may not want to admit this publically though.

I like this thread.... I hope this thread has a 10 year lifespan.

Wow, that is a pretty bold prediction Crazzyman, escpecially considering the way things are going now. If you´re right (which I seriously doubt) you´re going to look like a genius.
