Why do you care so much about BC? Why not just buy a ps2 and the cheapest PS3 model? All together i bet that would be cheaper than a BC PS3
I don't think we'll ever see a full BC ps3 in the future ever again. The best case scenario would be to provide emulation BC via a system update and I assume that will only become a possibility once the ps2 gets phased out which probably rules out this year still.

No reason to believe it would be cheaper than a BC PS3, unless Sony plans to cram a whole PS2 inside the PS3.
I'm guessing the reason most people want BC is to avoid a mess of cables, power supplies, controllers and whatnot.

upscaling, ps2 games on hdtv look like crap.

I am hoping they bring full software BC at some point, that would be sweet.
But it is only a vague hope.
