Yes I couldn't beleive the difference. Make sure you change the Wii settings to 480p(I think it is) as this will make the most of the new TV.

Sony is one of the better upscalers, they stand alone with Toshiba in that regard, imo, so yes: putting it over component will make a noticeable difference.
