Forums - Sales - Are used games killing the market?

I must admit, I love buying used games from gamestop.  They ran 3 separate "Buy 2, Get 1 Free" sales this holiday and I took advantage of them along with my edge card (-10% on used).  I ended up paying about $33 each for LBP, Gears 2, and Prince of Persia on the last sale.  All three were in perfect condition with manuals -- no scratches.  The PoP was actually the collector's edition and has a second disk in it with other "stuff".

I have actually bought alomost every game in the last 6 months through GS's B2G1 offer with the exception of Animal Crossing Wii and Lips.

I was in Gamestop last Friday and noticed a number of AAA games that were WELL stocked on the Used shelf.  There were probably 4 Gears of War 2, 10 GTAIVs, and multiple other newer releases.  On the PS3 side, they had about a dozen copies of MGS4 all the way down to $29.99 as well as a couple of LBPs and Resistance 2's.  I was back this week and the VAST majority of late release stuff had been snatched up in their final B2G1 free sale of the year.

That is a LOT of missed opportunities for developers...  Even though I participate in those smoking deals, I believe this practice needs to end for the viability of the industry...

A lot of people cant afford to regularly buy full price new releases, so used games being resold is a great thing

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

I think the sale of used games hurts the gaming industry more than piracy does.

Games are severely overpriced, I only rent games and will continue to do so as I get to play all the games I want without breaking the bank. More then enough people are idiotic enough (as was I for years) to spend £40 on a game, they will easily make up for the few sales the gaming industry will not get from me.

Used games and rentals FTW!

Lol. Dude if you believe this then stop as of now. If you don't its just hypocritical

Its just another bullshit excuse imo from companies.

There's too much garbage out there to buy them all new. They better either be a 60 hour RPG or have great online play to be worth $60.

$60 games that last 9 hours are what populates the used market.

Keep prices lower for new, and give them more replay and people will not dump them so quick.

If the industry can't be viable with a used game market then the whole business model needs to be re-evaluated.

Some games are worth full price, many others are not. If games dropped in price after 3-4 months, more people would buy new over used.

I think it hurts the PS3 and 360 more.

The Wii games section is usually sparce(with the exception of Red Steel...lol). And most of the good games cost only 5 buck less used than new (Zelda and Metriod are worth getting used though)

I have a rule with myself, if buying the game used only saves me 6 dollars or less, i get it new.
