Forums - Sony - Let's Talk: What do you think would be a smart move for sony?

Keep status quo, until they begin making a profit. Then, analyze everything at that point (financials, marketshare, upcoming games, etc.) and decide what to do. At this point, they are only really in danger of losing games, if they become too far behind the 360. If they stay within 10-15 million consoles, then most games should be multiplatform.

bc costs shiut loads to produce thats why they took it out, it wouldnt be smart to put it back in.

Advertise the ps3 to hell, with the "Like nothing you've seen before" and the "B3yond" commercials on every single channel INCLUDING kid channels. Atleast 10 times as much advertising as the ps3 has currently.

E3 09

Drop the 80gb to $279.99 kill off stock(drop 160gb to $379.99)

Release a new 100gb model for $299 bundled with little big planet

Re introduce PS2 BC to the ps3, release a $399 200gb model with full BC bundled with killzone 2.( dropping the ps2 to $99.99)

nah advertising a super expensive console will cost redilcious amounts to do, plus if the demand rises they will; lose even more money off of each ps3. i think as soon as they make money of the ps3 they willadvert it tho

I don't think a smaller HDD would reduce their costs. 80GB is pretty common at the moment. USB and SD slots are very cheap, that won't help much also. Sticking with one model should be the best option. One model is cheaper than 2 models. However in this case 80GB is costing them more then 160GB model. Actually I think they should do nothing.

They need bundles from January until December. Stick with first party bundles, that's cheaper. When a new game launches bundle it after 2 weeks. People might buy a standalone or other bundle with a cheaper game, just to play that new game on launch.

They should stretch the length of this generation. In the Sony will be OK. Prices of HDTVs will be affordable for many people in 2009. Advertise a Full HD tv + PS3 for less then $999 in 2009. They should me able to take more advantage of Blu-ray next year.

Focus on software based profits, forget trying to win the console war at this stage. Don't cut price, minimize losses on sales (but don't reduce PS3 production yet either, they want to maintain confidence in the brand).

I say this not because of Sony's game division, but because the entire company is in trouble and they actually have to prioritize surviving as a company.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Start working on a new console.

I'm serious. Sony seems to have already cut as much as it can out of the PS3, hardware-wise. Unless they can somehow cut the harddrive or replace it with something a lot cheaper, they're stuck.

I'd say hold steady with PS3, don't bother with a price cut until absolutely necessary and try to reach profitability. Pricing action at this point is only going to ignite an equal and opposite reaction from Microsoft, and Microsoft can afford to lose a lot more money than Sony can.

Meanwhile, get to work on PS4. What should the PS4 look like? I'm not going to say it should be a complete copy of Wii, but motion controls are a must, and the price needs to be $300 or less (there can be a premium $400 model). Keep blu-ray if possible, let the cell die.

It should probably also have something else...something disruptive. But I can't say what that would be because disruption is hard work! Too hard to dream up in a forum posting.

Drop out of the hardware business and just make software for others

hey you guys were all wanting nintendo to do that before wii

Forget PS2 stop Grasping at the past price cut at an unexpected time but befrore spring 09 is over + killzone pack. Plus a Bob Marley CD

bring back BC and some how lower price to make ps2 buyers buy a ps3 instead of ps2

i would say they should keep the price the same until lowering it wont create a bigger loss. and they should bring back BC and have better bundles that have better value for people who think it's too expensive.
