Forums - Gaming - The best looking console game ever.

Whoa, somebody else played Willy Beamish? I used to rock that Nintari at my grandparents' house. I gave up when something happened with a babysitter I think. I think I passed the frog race. Don't remember much.

KZ2 might be the most successful attempt to look photorealistic in a video game to date, but as many others have pointed out, "most photorealistic" and "best ever" have nothing to do with each other, and photorealistic graphics age really fast as the're constantly outdone. KZ2 might look as bad as GoldenEye in 2 generations, but Donkey Kong Country or Yoshi's Island or Okami will look good forever.

I remember when Shenmue was the best looking console game ever.

Good days.

Yes it's a shame the Dreamcasts CD drive could not compete with DVD drive based systems.

 Huh, WHAT?

Oh, I loved Willy Beamish. The year I was to get it for Christmas, I actually snuck it out of my parents' bedroom just to play it on my PC. I did actually win the game, too, long long ago. Though it's kinda hard to win, mostly because some of the later puzzles were designed to require speed, timing, AND pixel-perfect accuracy. Definitely not Sierra's best adventure game, but one of their most unique for the time.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

technically its killzone 2 without a doubt, but over all technically and the art style my nod goes to uncharted 2.

Without a doubt Donkey Kong Country. As has been pointed out, one day Killzone 2 will no longer look impressive and yet I will still sit back and marvel at DKC every time. The games with the best art direction will be the ones that live forever, not the technical marvels.

Colours FTW

P.S. - DKC is ugly. It had to be said.

wind waker is my favorite

"If new things are so great, where have they been the whole time?"

If you have an HD TV, thse graphics are eye candy. Its such a good feeling to see these visuals with such vivid colors and detail.

I thought light grey and dark grey were hues, not colors.  Please correct me If I'm wrong.

Pixel Art can be fun.

As for 2D, I've seen some fairly impressive visuals, but Legend of Mana still tops the list for me in terms of artistically beautiful visuals.

Though Odin Sphere definitely comes close.

Why don't they make many full-2D games for home consoles any more, anyway?
