 Naw, when you have to decide whether something is a conspiracy or just stupidity, ALWAYS go with stupidity. There are a lot more stupid people than there are people smart enough to plan a conspiracy,

Is Microsoft unscrupulous enough to do such a thing?    YES!!

Were they bright enough to think of doing it?  POSSIBLY

Are they smart enough to do it and not screw up and get caught?   VERY QUESTIONABLE

Did they need to bother? NO - Sony did it for them

Let's give credit where it's due. These wounds were self inflicted. The generation was theirs to lose.  I certainly thought I would be playing on a PS3. Microsoft got a headstart but then gave back any advantage with RROD. Nintendo had zero press support and few that believed that they had a shot at anything better than distant third.

Sony came in with their previous model being the most popular ever and still selling well, everyone expected a coronation. Microsoft was up to their ass in quality issues, people were still laughing at the Wii's name. Then they came out and announced the price they expected people to pay and damned if the hadn't found a way to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory.

Then they nailed their own coffin shut with the most increadible string of ill chosen ads, arrogant press statements, the public relations office from hell. It was a train wreck.

Even the design couldn't have been worse. They had created a console at a price point that for a significant portion of their customer base would involve parental input.

THEATER OF THE MIND

Mr. & Mrs Parent, who are dubious about video games and uneasy about high technology, let me introduce the PS3. It's a big black monolith with technologies you don't understand and it wants to take over your children AND your entire living room. They'll be playing mostly violent games like Grand Theft Auto -yes, you've heard of that haven't you. Oh and by the by it costs about 2-3 times more than you've ever had to pay for something like this.

Or we have this little innocious white box with a pretty blue light. It' called the Wii and it just wants to play with your children and won't let them get tangled up with bad people on the internet. They'll be playing with Zelda and rescuing Princess Peach and Mario. Oh yes you remeber playing Mario yourself. And by the by, it only costs half as much.

Well I'll leave you to make a decision .... already, you've already decided, well then which will it be?

There must be a bit more to it than just PS3 console sales.
A long wait in between the PS3 exclusive games would drive me mad if I owned a PS3. Maybe he will buy a PS3 in two or three years time when all these hyped PS3 games (Kill Zone 2, God of War 3, The Agency, Infamous, Resistance 3, Gran Turismo 5, UnCharted 2 and Final Fantasy XIII/ Versus and quite a few more titles I can not recall the names of but are exclusive to PS3) are out and PS3 is selling for around $200 or $250 - hopefully.

 But those who leave the PS3 for a Wii achieve great honor not only in this life but in their next one as well
