Seems to me the 360 is actually a better choice than the PS3 if SO4 had to be exclusive. SO does better in the west than in Japan. It's graphics suit the west, it's gameplay suit the west. I would imagine SO4 will actually beat SO3 on the PS2's sales in america and possibly in the Eu as well. In japan I can definetly see it being the best selling rpg on the 360. Maybe get up around 300k after all is said and done.

It should definetly hit a million on the 360. 1.3million seems a bit tough though. I guess maybe it could manage it if there was enough marketing and the reviews were good.

My thoughts exactly.

This game willnot bomb. Though it may not be a huge success it does have some things going for it.

1. It has a fan base from its PS2 days who are looking forward to the 7th gen addition to the series.

2. It is being released in NA shortly after the Japan release. Thus it will ride the hype in to the American market.

3. It appears to be an excellent RPG game for the HD market where these kind of games are lacking.

4. It is on the 360 which has a huge install base.

I say it sells one million within 4 weeks of it's American release.

It might...but who knows how much mula SE got from M$

Am I the only person who thinks Star Ocean 4 will massively bomb?  Money hatted or not, I can't figure out a single reason SE would make it 360 exclusive or even timed exclusive, which it seems to be.  Garunteed money, ya-ya-blah-blah.

If Star Ocean hadn't become so popular on SONY platforms, it wouldn't even be worth money hatting.  They're excluding the vast majority of their fans with this game by going to 360.  Do they expect it to move consoles?  Cuz I don't see it doing that.  The majority of Star Ocean fans who have already bought next gen consoles have most likely gotten a PS3, assuming the next Star Ocean would release on it - I'm one of them.  Am I the only one seeing this as a slap in the face?  Out of principal, I'll rent this game for 360 and beat it, and then return it.  If they come out with a PS3 version, I'll buy it.  It's no secret I prefer my PS3 over my 360, but this is a title I fully expected to be, at the very least, multiplat.

With this gaming coming only to 360, at least for the time being, I see it bombing hard.  Very hard.  You don't exclude your entire install base and expect to sell well.  RPG's haven't sold all too well on the 360 since it's release..do they expect this to be any different?

I'm not saying it won't sell..maybe 1 million on 360 before they eventually decide to port it..and by then it's a year old, and the 360 version will be discounted while they expect PS3 owners to pay full price for an old game (yet again), and it won't sell nearly as well as it could if it was a multiplat release..

If you completely exclude your fan base, the value of the game goes down.  If Star Ocean 4 doesn't sell well because they did this, the game won't be worth money-hatting in the future because it will be seen as a bomb.

Whether my logic is spot on or not...how does this move make sense?  By doing this, they're basically saying that money is far more important than their fans.  This is a good way to kill your reputation..and Star Ocean was the only game keeping Square's reputation in tact for me.

Actually im a huge tri-Ace fan and I went with the 360. I simply assumed that once they got rolling this gen I would have to also purchase a PS3, seems Microsoft saved me the money.

I'm a...well, I WAS a huge tri-Ace fan.  I have all previous Star Oceans (including blue sphere). but I'm not be able to get SO4. so what are the odds of T-A making Valkyrie Profile 3 for 360?

What dont you agree with?  The game is releasing on 2/19 in Japan and 3/3 in the States.  Thats not even a months difference.

The 360 has 26 million consoles sold.  That means only one in every 26 owners has to get the game for it to break a million right away.  With the great attatch rate of the 360 I dont see how this is far from possible.

What

Atom Bomb...Japan...nice cultural sensitivity...and no, it willl NOT bomb...I'm getting it!

I only fear for Star Ocean 4 because Square Enix hasn't exactly been on the top of their game lately.

Eh. I think it really depends on what your looking at that constitutes Square's good and bad side.

Their remakes have been nothing short of great, TWEWY was hailed as being a handheld RPG masterpiece, and Square's top-tier series have constantly been doing well.

It's the offshoots from their other divisions, it seems, that have been pretty bad. Star Ocean 4 (and correct me if I'm wrong) is the first major release for Square this generation between the Wii, DS, PSP, PS3 and X360 of a major, named sequel. That'll shortly be followed up by DQIX.

Because of that, I think Square is going to look pretty good this year. Dissidia and Crisis Core looked pretty good, and were offshoots. I think that their mainline series are still going to look superb this gen - regardless of platform.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
