Forums - Nintendo - Are 500k sales a success on Wii?

[quote]On HD consoles with all the expensive development cost I think if you dont reach 1 million youve lost a good amount of money....Though in Wii you can do good buy selling in the 100k or above area.[/quote}

Sigh no PS360 games are not ten times as expensive to make as Wii games. Crappy Wii games may be successful at 100k but so are crappy PS360 games. Double would be more like it, but you have to combine PS3 and 360 sales because porting costs are not that big, since most developers will be used to it by now.

It depends on which third party game you are talking about. In my opnion, any console that sells 500k worldwide is an success. Unless, if it is a huge exclusive game like Super Smash bros or halo 3 or mgs4, then, no. Other than tht, 500k is an EPIC SUCCESS.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

i hate any argument of someone saying on the consoles userbase 500k is a shitty number or whatever.

so then what was god of war that sold 3 million or whatever it was on a 125 million console a huge failure beyond belief. I mean seriously that is like 1:40 attach ratio. That is just pathetic eh?

500,000 is not a very impressive number for wii

That magically doesn't apply to a gaming console they like.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Considering the userbase of the wii, games should on the most part be doing a few hundred thousand with ease. If they arent, thats a problem

What would the problem be? Crappy games?

Ten times is indeed high but I also believe 2x is too low. Several different figures have been stated by developers and obviously games vary but the consensus seems to be somewhere around 3-4x.

Yeah but is conduit going to sell almost 3 mil in the first week?

My point is that the Conduit is going to have a hard time turning profit unless they blow past a million.

I think that it will blow past a mil and settle around 2 mil worldwide.

Sorry, but even 3rd party as HVS arent dumb to make a game cost as HD games to make a point. They still want to make a profit with this game you know. Thats why I think fan of this game is overhyping this game maybe it will have better graphics than COD WAWii but seriously thats it...

Dude take a look at the specs of what the quantum 3 engine that they created from the ground up is capable of

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Conduit

Take a look at the graphics section.   Creating an engine is expenisve in itself.  But High voltage themselves stated they created this engine to compete with the graphics of xbox 360 games.  Now I'm not saying that it's going to have better graphics then xbox 360 games.  However alot of the specs of what it can put out are standard in high def games.

This game costs should be simliar to many HD games out there in my perspective.  But hopefully they will get more of a return out of it because they created their own engine and can license it.

Well 500k on every console is a decent result, however on the Wii development costs are significantly lower so financialy its usually a great success, like other said developers are usually very happy with sales around it ex. Suda and NMH or THQ and De Blob (they must be pretty exited now since the sales have picked up)

About Madworld it will definately reach 500k, it's as interesitng as it gets, SEGA will advertise their game and gamers will buy it, 1 million is certainly a possibiltiy.

About The Conduit this is the most hyped Wii Game from 3rd party studio, it's bee na talking point for months, supported by majority of gamers and HVS has been doing pretty good job, if the final product is decent/good enough it will definately sell more then one million.

I was worried too, until I realized those Ben10 cashcows are made by High Voltage... they should have plenty of revenue flow from them.

The Conduit is big for a Wii game thus far, but still nothing compared to the games that were capible of making a studio go under when they flopped (see lair and haze)

500k for the conduit will be profitable, but I am sure they are hoping for more. I think 1 million for that game and they are set. 1 million for a big budget HD game is when they just begin to see some green.

Its their loss then, and after SEGA making profits with the Wii after they shift focus with it because most of their HD console games bombed. I just hope SEGA still supporting HVS if somehow The Conduit dont sell 1 million in its first week. Good luck HVS, you shouldnt do the HD model on the Wii. You still dont get it how and why Wii games sell you still dont know the market. We know you're doing good with the Wii but seriously, if Ninty cares for the graphics they should do a high end spec console instead...
