@OP: I can hardly believe this is coming from you, but I'll try and believe you're being serious.

From my limited knowledge of your gaming tastes, I'd say this is a bad idea. Besides the obvious fact that Gamestop is the worst place to dump a console on (sell it somewhere else), I'm not sure you will be interested enough in the Wii's 09 lineup. Many games we're hoping for are either not coming in a long time (DQX, MH3, new Tales) or are pure speculation (next Zelda, Mario, any new Nintendo games).

I know you've cited Gamerankings a lot before, so I assume your tastes are similar to what the critics say. I'm willing to bet the PS3's exclusive 09 lineup will be better or near equal (in reviews) to the Wii's. This may change 2010, but by then I'm sure you'd be able to afford a new console anyway.

My conclusion: Twilight Princess, No More Heroes, Mario Galaxy, etc aren't going anywhere. They'll be waiting for you whenever you find the money for the Wii. If you've already played most of what the PS3 has to offer (and feel no need to replay them), there are still great titles for it coming 09. Look up the PS3 games that are coming and make sure they aren't games you'd regret missing out on. I don't think it'll be until 2010 when the Wii truly shines, with Motion+ being fully utilized, DQX, MH3 (in the west), next Mario/Zelda, etc.

in regards to that mgs2 on psn shop: it's completely fake. why would they put sons of liberty instead of substance (or whatever it's called) ?.

I didn't say it was or wasn't photoshop, but coupled with the quote, it does make a compelling argument.

I'll just take a 'wait and see' approach on PS2 b/c, but I'm most assured it's coming to the PS3 via a firmware update or something of that like once PS2 stops selling.

I at least have a quote (though from a crazy person) saying it's coming.  More than the naysayers can say.  And it does make sense.  Bring the PS2 b/c back when the PS2 stops selling so you don't kill the profit margin of the system.

LoL Nice one XD I like that it's got halo and zelda.. not to mention pokemon and gears of war .. yea the psn is impressive indeed. And the ps3 might just be the only system able to emulate those games without having anything rewritten or any software developed for it ! The cell strikes again !
