Forums - Microsoft - 360 tough market for JRPGs: Mistwalker's 3rd game canned

If potential sales were an issue they should have went multiplat, rather than throw away all the time and effort that's been put into the game thus far.

It's all about the game.

I think the lack of trailers, gameplay footage, and screenshots indicate that the game was never that far in development.

The article also got two details wrong...

1) "AQ Interactive, the Japanese publisher of Mistwalker's games"

2) "There's no word on what, if anything, Mistwalker Studios plans to work on now."

pfft!

Yeah, pretty big fail. Especially when Mistwalker just announced a new game (which can hopefully sell >50,000 units!).

Lost Odyssey 2 would be a million seller if it was made(I'm not trying to make any sales predictions).  The new Blue Dragon games might do well but it might not.  That RTS Blue Dragon game sold very poorly despite the fact that the franchise is huge in Japan. (ex. the anime gets high ratings there)

I'm really surprised at just how poorly they've fared on the DS. Away: Shuffle Dungeon's sales make me cringe every time.

Glad to hear the anime's doing well. I hope to get a chance to see it someday.

I thought Mistwalker was owned by Microsoft.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Not owned by, no. Micro$oft just helped them get $tarted up, and Mistwalker agreed to make (two, I think) games for the 360.

Sorry, I used a poor choice or words.  I know it's alive, but the point is, they did it to themselves.  They released a really kiddy looking game with a poor story and a game that actually had too much story.  That's not really a good choice of words either though.  They chose kind of a poor way to tell the story.  If it was at least voice acted it would have been better in lost odessey.

There was no more story in Lost Odyssey than the typical Final Fantasy game

JRPG's can be successful on Xbox 360 but they are not using the full potential of it.

many developers make a Xbox 360 game to later release teh PS3 version with more stuff and this is WRONG

Hopefully Mistwalker will just start making Wii or PS3 games rather than folding... most likely Wii, I'm thinking, if their Japanese publisher wants to make any money in the short term -- maybe PS3 if they've got deep enough pockets for the long haul.

I think Star Ocean The Last Hope is going to be a good indicator of how a non-FF JRPG can fare on the 360
