Forums - General - RNC chairman candidate defends "Barack The Magic Negro" Song

I heard his first choice for the CD was this song (as it was foretold back in the 1960's):

- Colored Spade

I'm a
Colored spade
A nigger
A black nigger
A jungle bunny
Jigaboo coon
Pickaninny mau mau

Uncle Tom
Aunt Jemima
Little Black Sambo

Cotton pickin'
Swamp guinea
Junk man
Shoeshine boy

Elevator operator
Table cleaner at Horn & Hardart
Slave voodoo
Zombie
Ubangi lipped

Flat nose
Tap dancin'
Resident of Harlem

And

President of the United States
of Love
President of the United States
of Love

(and if you ask him to dinner you're going to feed him)

Watermelon
Hominy grits
An' shortnin' bread
Alligator ribs
Some pig tails
Some black eyed peas
Some chili
Some collard greens

And if you don't watch out
This boogie man will get you
Booooooooo!

And yeah, those are the real lyrics to a song from one of the biggest shows on Broadway ever (also made into a movie by Miloš Forman). One of my favorite musicals.

The second choice, which also did not make the CD, was this song:

"Chocolate City"
Uh, what's happening CC?
They still call it the White House
But that's a temporary condition, too.
Can you dig it, CC?

To each his reach
And if I don't cop, it ain't mine to have
But I'll be reachin' for ya
'Cause I love ya, CC.
Right on.

There's a lot of chocolate cities, around
We've got Newark, we've got Gary
Somebody told me we got L.A.
And we're working on Atlanta
But you're the capital, CC

Gainin' on ya!
Get down
Gainin' on ya!
Movin' in and on ya
Gainin' on ya!
Can't you feel my breath, heh
Gainin' on ya!
All up around your neck, heh heh

Hey, CC!
They say your jivin' game, it can't be changed
But on the positive side,
You're my piece of the rock
And I love you, CC.
Can you dig it?

Hey, uh, we didn't get our forty acres and a mule
But we did get you, CC, heh, yeah
Gainin' on ya
Movin' in and around ya
God bless CC and its vanilla suburbs

Gainin' on ya!
Gainin' on ya!
Gainin' on ya! (heh!)
Gainin' on ya!
Gainin' on ya!
What's happening, blood?
Gainin' on ya!
Gainin' on ya!
Gainin' on ya!

Yeah!
What's happening, black?
Brother black, blood even
Yeah-ahh, just funnin'

Gettin' down

Ah, blood to blood
Ah, players to ladies
The last percentage count was eighty
You don't need the bullet when you got the ballot
Are you up for the downstroke, CC?
Chocolate city
Are you with me out there?

And when they come to march on ya
Tell 'em to make sure they got their James Brown pass
And don't be surprised if Ali is in the White House
Reverend Ike, Secretary of the Treasure
Richard Pryor, Minister of Education
Stevie Wonder, Secretary of FINE arts
And Miss Aretha Franklin, the First Lady
Are you out there, CC?
A chocolate city is no dream
It's my piece of the rock and I dig you, CC
God bless Chocolate City and its (gainin' on ya!) vanilla suburbs
Can y'all get to that?
Gainin' on ya!
Right on, chocolate city!

Yeah, get deep
Real deep
Heh
Be mo' funk
Mmmph, heh
Get deep
Bad
Unh, heh
Just got New York, I'm told

"Barack the Magic Negro" was the third choice, and IMHO, the worst. But judge for yourself...

"BARACK THE MAGIC NEGRO" (as sung by an Al Sharpton impersonator)

Barack the Magic Negro lives in D.C.
The L.A. Times, they called him that
'Cause he's not authentic like me.

Yeah, the guy from the L.A. paper
Said he makes guilty whites feel good
They'll vote for him, and not for me
'Cause he's not from the hood.

See, real black men, like Snoop Dog,
Or me, or Farrakhan
Have talked the talk, and walked the walk.
Not come in late and won!

Refrain:
Oh, Barack the Magic Negro, lives in D.C.
The L.A. Times, they called him that
'Cause he's black, but not authentically.

(repeat Refrain)

Some say Barack's "articulate"
And bright and new and "clean"
The media sure loves this guy,
A white interloper's dream!

But, when you vote for president,
Watch out, and don't be fooled!
Don't vote the Magic Negro in
'Cause... (then sharpton goes on a ranting tangent as the chorus continues)

This guy has absolutely no taste in music. Absolutely no taste. In fact I would say his choice was in bad taste. Absolutely terrible bad taste. The first or second choice would have been infinitely better.

Since when was negro an offensive word? (it might be uncomfortable and stuff... but not racial)
Isn't it also spanish for "black"?

You live in Tennessee and you don't know the answer to this question? Do you call your African-American friends "negros"? Seriously.

I don't, but i wish I would. I'm so sick of this damn political correctness.
But just because I don't say it, doesn't mean other people don't.

The controversy wasn't worth it. The joke isn't even funny.

Too many of you are missing the point.  Its not about political correctness.  Its just about not going there when your party has a history of directly or indirectly supporting racial discrimination and intolerance in general.

Did everyone forget that the many McCain supporters were cowering in their boots that Obama was a closet Muslim?  People who act like the GOP is the victim here are looking at this completely in isolation.  Its the Republican track record on racial issues that matters, not just this incident.

Not to mention I would love to see you walk into a black neighborhood and start calling everyone negroes.  If you are willing to go do that yourself, then you have a point.  But if you aren't, then you are the one who is missing the point.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Despite disagreeing with the subject matter and the intention (as well as disliking the Party), I would defend their right to produce and play the song to as great an extent as possible. Free speech is more important than a single incident.

The word "negro" is not racial? Do you not get dictionary.com in Tennessee?

Free speech is a double edged sword. They can absolutely play that song, they can play it as loud as they want, where ever they want. But alternatively everyone has the freedom of speech to call them racist assholes and not vote for them. Freedom of speech doesn't mean free from criticism from said speech.

If you call a black person a nigger or negro it implies that they are still your slave. Its just unnecessary to call someone that anyway...
