FROM MY GIRLFRIEND:

Brawl.
No More Heroes.
Mario Strikers Charged.
Mario Galaxy.
Battalion Wars II.
Mario Kart.

And there were four more she mentioned. But those immeditately came to mind as, "Good" games out right now.

Name 5 games in 09:

King's Story.
The Conduit.
MadWorld.
FFCC: EOT.
Monster Hunter 3.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2009.

Three of those were listed from my girlfriend. How can these guys say things like this and not get hammered?

also another beef is this idea of "professional" videogame journalism. Anybody ever listen to sports talk shows, or sports writing? Watch any political shows, or read political commentary? Anybody? Since when have sports commentators spoken equally of all teams and players? Since when did they make sure that no team got it's feelings hurt, or never said anything negative (deserved or undeserved) about coaches/players/teams/fans? Since when did political commentators make sure to play nice with all the candidates and present all of their views as valid? It's a videogame talk show, and listening to it I can't tell the difference between it and any other talk show.

Sorry if it hurts your feelings that they don't give blowjobs to your system of choice, but that isn't there job. They are their to voice their views of the industry and Nintendo has given them an abundance of ammo to voice their feelings. Sorry if they aren't the right demographic. Maybe they should have a 1up show soccermom edition so you can get some positive feedback on the wii. But they are the core gamer, and they are mirroring the views of most core gamers right now. I have a wii and love it, but it's sucked ass this second half of the year, sorry. I don't feel offended when they say those things, I know where they are coming from.

In politics, whenever they talk to an analyst they tend to be introduced with their bias being addressed like "Michael Regan, Conservative Commentator" ...

Notice it's called "Conservative Commentator" and not "bible thumping homophobe". Labeling them as "PS3 fanboys" or "360 Fanboys" is ludicris. They are the core gamer, and that much should be obvious to begin with seeing as how they are all men in their late twenties or thirties that have played videogames their entire life and have a talk show about it. You don't listen to Rush Limbaugh and complain that he isn't giving Democrats a fair shake.

And sports commentators aren't required to say which team is their favorite and be judged adveresly as unqualified to have a talk show for it.

Woah....calm down.

Im saying they are suppose to be proffesionals right? They are suppose to represent the industry.

Yet they still say state those false comments. The Wii didnt have the greatest year no shit. No one will say that. Was the Wii year as terrible as everyone says it was no.

The thing as proffesionals I would have thought they would be a little more mature about it and since they love core games Id expect them to look forward to core games across all platforms. But they dont. They ignore it which as "proffesionals" I would ASSUME they wouldnt.

Obviously, you missed his point. Someone like Rush makes it clear that Democrats are not going to get a fair shake before the show even starts. But when you link to a podcast, and think they are going to speak with fairness and integrity... well...

And in the realm you mention, there is plenty of open, "I love " that is acceptable. But none of the guys in that podcast would straight out mention they have an open bias against Wii. They try to make it seem like they are not biased by presenting, "facts" that give them a more, "neutral" and, "unbiased" viewpoint. The fact of the matter is, you cannot say that the system leading this console generation is not a video game system...

...well not while thinking the two losing are any more proclaimed in that area.

For the most part the core gamers sites are losing love for the Wii because they know that Wii is just not for them anymore.  Most of the those writers and editors are single white males who have roommates then families with kids.  So to them they are just not interested in Wii Fit or Animal Crossing when they can play Halo or Gears.  Mario Kart and SSBB is fun but they can play Soul Caliber IV and Wipeout HD with their buddies who are not in the industry.

Look at the cast of 1up Yours.  Garnett is married but no kids who drinks heavily.  Shane a single guy who I believe lives with a cat and David Ellis, another single minded guy who into sports and shooters.  John is the only one on there with a family and for most part champions the good of the Wii but knows not even try to sell it as a core machine. He knows that the games are for the mainstream audience and he can see how well most of those games will fit in that lifestyle, especially through the eyes of his young sons.

Like it or not, the Wii dismissed has a lot non Nintendo core gamers this year, so those core game writers and podcasters have dimissed the Wii this year.  Maybe next year...

Lol I thought I was the only one who knew them by name.

Garnett however is not as much as a dick towards the Wii as the others. Your point about John is spot on.

Being professional doesn't have to do with giving a favorable opinion about everything, it has to do with giving an opinion which is fair and reasonable given the facts of a situation ... Even the most biased political comentators have done a far better job than 1up at this.

For example, saying "In 2008 Nintendo and third party publishers really haven't payed enough attention to core gamers on the Wii" is quite a bit different than saying "Name 5 Wii games worth playing" ... and saying "The Wii is more powerful than the Gamecube and yet most Wii games do not meet the standard we expected from the Gamecube" is quite a bit different than saying "Why the fuck do Dreamcast games looke better than Wii games"

Here here.  Blunt but to the point.  Nintendo is a great company and they get the fun aspect of gaming  but they also are targeted toward the non core gaming audience.  Core gamers will never fully appreciate what they do, because is not talking to them right now, they are talking to everyone else.

I'm just saying...

...have you ever listened to Rush Limbaugh? Hannity and Colmes? Ever turned on a sports show? At this point that's just your opinion. To say they are the most proffesional in the world, no, I would not. But to say that they are more outrageous than political and sports commentators isn't really true either. So they said that many wii games look worse than dreamcast games....did they call miyamoto a communist terrorist? Until they do, I don't think they are so unproffesional.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Proffesionalism in the political commentary field. 1up's comments don't seem so bad in comparison. I can dig up plenty more.

Yeah, 1UP is pretty bad. I don't even read game magazines anymore because most are becoming like that.
