Forums - Gaming - If JRPGs are defecting to Wii, what genre(s) need Blu-Ray this generation?

"Massive Worlds" do NOT = Blu-Ray.

Texturing a massive world takes very little space compared to having a large amount of FMV ala RPGs.

The reason RPGs are on mulitple discs isn't because of the size of the world.

Its the amount of video.

Without FMV I bet FFXIII would fit on one DVD - easily.

FFVII fit on one CD as an interesting note.

i cant imagine the "need" for blu games but it does offer quite a few advtages over dvd.

if it wasn't for the finacial implications all consoles this gen would be blu-ray compatible now.

Unfortunately for JRPGs, the Blu-Ray does provide a "variety of environments/unique-textures-per-level" advantage that DVD-9 can never match.

I'm sure the Wii will be a fun JRPG platform, but I doubt we'll ever see anything breathtaking on it, that we haven't already seen on the PS2. Its a good thing JRPGs never seem to get old for me. =)

You're going to have to explain to me exactly what you mean by "breathtaking" for a JRPG.

Surely that's his way of being in denial and moving the goal posts.

BTW, no game need BluRay. Games are not movies, and movies don't need BluRay either.

DQ10 goes onto the Wii and a TO game so it means all JRPG are going to the Wii? People on this forum are really really short sighted, not long ago it was "Wii does not get enough JRPG".

FFXIII and Versus are 2 games which would need blu-ray, maybe even WKC. Multiple-discs FTL +_- (yh I would rather have an install :D)

This.

enrertainment is a mater of luxury so debating "need" is a waste of time.  movies&games dont "need" dvd neither  we couuld have it on cd.

is blu ray neccasery? no but what in gaming is? . is it better ?hell yeah it is.

Whatever the genre, if you want HD graphics AND a vast and detailed game world, BD isn't indispensable, but it's at least very useful, just like in the previous generation one DVD became useful as more comfortable than multiple CD's, although nothing will ever match the increase of possibilities we had with the switch from floppies to CD's.

I dont know.. I mean if a game can be as big as fallout 3.. then I really dont see why GTA IV is so small.
