@simulacrum: when  a game that has been out for a couple months longer outsells a remake of a year old game thats been out a few  weeks, i hardly call that huge.

 Keep in mind that Pokemon Platinum has been out for 15 weeks, while Monster Hunter has been out for 39 weeks.

Lifetime, I would expect the two to end relatively dead on even (with Pokemon perhaps a tad higher). That's pretty awesome.

Even better, is that this isn't because Pokemon Platinum was the worst selling 3rd wheel Pokemon. It looks like it will be the 2nd best selling, behind only Pokemon Yellow.

I'm really sitting here and rooting for that Monster Hunter Freedom: 2nd G will be the best selling non-Square non-Nintendo game EVER in Japan.  It just needs 200K more.

Big titles that Monster Hunter Freedom: 2nd G will beat:

Final Fantsy V, VI, IX, X, XII (all FFs but 7 and 8)

Dragon Quest III, IV and V(all but 6,7 and 8)

All the Gran Turismos

All the Super Smash Bros.

Super Mario Land 2, 3 and 4

All the Donkey Kong games

That is pretty damn huge.

when you put it in perspective oyvoyvoy, yes that is quite big.

What's even more impressive is the fact that Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G is almost the same game as Monster Hunter Portable 2, and yet those two combined sold more than any Dragon Quest game in Japan. Bet Capcom didn't forsee that.
