Other than a few exceptions, I really find this to be true. At first, I thought Fallout 3 was better than Oblivion in every single way. But after a good number of hours, I found that the game wasn't all that "amazing" and "outstanding."
After about 40 hours, it gets boring. Having done most if not all the sidequests at this point, what is there left to do? Once you reach level 20, you can't gain any experience or abilities, which is honestly depressing. There isn't enough of a reward to go out and explore anymore because you never get to see the outcomes of what you did, nor do you gain experience.
The ending to Fallout 3 is absolute garbage. Utter trash. Ugh, it blows my mind how bad the ending really is. Multiple endings? They're all pretty much the same thing. Just a damn narration.
Before that, however, the ending sequences blow. All you do is follow a damn robot to your destination. You do nothing besides following and looking at the robot do cool things. Why can't I shoot down enemies, planes, and vehicles with the damn robot myself?
Great game, one of the best of the year, but I find Oblivion better. I popped in Oblivion not too long ago after finishing up Fallout 3, and I was surprised at how much I liked it more than Fallout 3.
