this RDM thing is 1920p, (Super HD) and at the moment barely anyone anywhere has a super HD tv, people are only just taking up HD, super HD adoption is at least another 5 years away and even then youre assuming that RDM will get early adoption from majour studios

Soooo... what your saying is Buy this new format, because your 1080p movies will look just as good and cheap, and in 5 years when prices of the "Super HD" models come down, we will be ready...

what studio is gonna adopt another format that wont sell for 5 years? i can see it happening in 2013 when people start buying super hd tvs, but i doubt any majour studios will adopt before then, and Blu-Ray isnt that expensive, its the same as dvd was when it first launched, and as for future proof, youre making the assumption that no one will release a competetive format and at no point do i suggest anyone should buy a technology that wont be value for money for 5 years and even then only if it sees mass market adoption and has no competting formats.

Few advantages over Blu Ray (current tvs display 1080p maximum)
50 gb is enough really
Blu Ray already has lots of players in consuemrs hands, and brand recognition, and support of movie companies

That said, I hope it does well, and the competition causes a drop in Blu Ray player and movie prices

Ok well... this New Format will have the rez that supports up to 1920p... so it will look as good if not better then Blu-Ray on your 1080p TV, and when 5 years comes around you will be ready, so a studio thats always looking for a ways to sell Movies will be interested (and thats ALL the studios), and once word of mouth gets out that something better, cheaper, larger (for 1 layer) there might be no stopping it..

Yes Blu-Ray is that expensive. It might be the same as DvD when it first came out but come on...

DvD was replacing vhs...VHS... Blu-Ray is replacing DvD.. not so much of an upgrade if you ask many.. (but there are thousands of discussions on that topic sooo..)

I'm making the assumption because you said that "Super HD adoption" is 5 years away.. and I said "this format is future proof" you buy it NOW and it looks amazing on your 1080p and 5 years from now it still looks amazing.

Your acting like this new format will ONLY play on a 1920p tv.. Thats like saying you can't view DvD's with you Blu-Ray player..

Here is the thing, it has been proven that 100GB Blu-ray discs can play in current players and the 50GB Blu-ray can handle a 1440p movie. 1920p is only two steps up from 1440p which means that 100GBs is more than enough for 1920p and 2160p.

      Microsoft is still going to have enough money to buy any exclusive they want on their next system which will be based off of Vista.  So, just like this gen having Gears 3 at launch, ease of programmability leading to timely releases plus being in the position to get any third party game they want, and gaining recognition as a console more suited to general gaming audiences than either the 360 or original xbox guarantees the Nextbox a big slice of the pie next time out and a bigger one than either the 360 or original xbox.

Here's the thing, Blu-Ray is proving what it can do, when this format can do it out the gate. Just think what this new format will be capable of down the road just like Blu-ray.

(If this new format is what they say it is, I mean we might find out that it's not what it's cracked up to be... but for discussion purposes.)
