if this new format gains traction( much cheaper than blu ray and better protection of midia) will anything happend to sony and its heavily promoted ps3/bluray?

blu ray was cracked a while ago, so it won't be uncrackable, if i studios already choose blu ray.

thats what i was thinking.

i jsut gave in and bought a ps3 like a month ago.

irght now i own planet earth and harry potter 4 for it.

i would hate if my money went to waste( on the movies not so much on the ps3, but still).

it wont be standardized... Blu-ray can actually handle 1440p with 50GBs. Resolutions of 1920p wont even be needed for another 8 years for the standard TV to evolve to handle it. You would still need an OLED TV or a 100+" HDTV to take advantage of the resolution.

For this to be a success, the movie studios will need to be behind it. They are just now starting to embrace Blu Ray, so I dont see them adapting to another format.

Blu-Ray already does 1440p and 400 GB. I don't think this standard will get the support it needs to succeed, so soon after the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray war has ended.

It's not functionality that makes a format successful, it's the backing of movie studios.

If a dvd for a pc game holds what? Crysis at 3000p or something, why in the world cant a blu-ray disc do the same?

what studios are going to back this new format when blu-ray has hardly taken off? i mean, hd-dvd was cheaper than blu-ray, and that failed too.
