Apparently the real numbers are somewhere between 100k and 10 million.

| makingmusic476 said: Summary of the link on the first page via neogaf: Might as well Give a semi-accurate overview here: -White Night Chronicles sold somewhere around 100,000 on it's first day with a high sell-through rate. -The supply has been sold out even to whole sellers. Due to it being the year end, Shipments are slower then normal. Have no fear though! Another Shipment should go out by the weekend - Pre-orders of White Night Chronicles were Low, so these sales are more then what was expected. - We should continue to take notice of Sales over the weekend, comparing them to Gundam that also had a good first day, but sales slowed down quickly. I remember certain posters claiming that the 360 sells JRPGs better than the ps3, using only Valkyria Chronicles, an SRPG, for comparison. 100k+ first day is as much as Tales of Vesperia did it's entire first week, and that's an established franchise. |
...To be fair, the Playstation 3 *does* have that 4:1 lead over the X360 in Japan...So it should sell a little bit better, no?
If it does only sell ~100k first week, I think that's pretty bad, given how much this game has been hyped by Sony fans. Time will tell, though, if it's true, and if it has legs.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
so who is the blogs source? I dont understand a couple of things.
1) Famitsu scores are always talked about as being lame and not important
2) Famitsu most wanted doesnt matter
3) rules 1 and 2 seem to only apply when its convenient
Do we have a source for preorders for retailers? Im so sick of people saying games "flop" when the sell through is high of the shipments. It doesnt matter what we internet browser hope for or say so i hate it when people cling to forum buzz of hardcore fans and claim games flop when they sell through 90% of their shipment....its all about sell through in terms of :flopping" not our expectations or hopes.

4:1?
2,644,591
vs
856,307
That's less than 3.1:1

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS
stever, if that's the case, then Infinite Undiscovery beat everyone's expectations by miles in Japan. It had 90% sellthrough it's first week.
...Lets forget the fact that it only sold ~20,000 after it's first week.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

thats the DUMBEST reasoning ive ever heard. How can you claim a product flops based on internet forum posts? wouldnt a flop be selling far less than the amount shipped by the company selling the product?

My bad. I thought the PS3 had already passed the 3m mark in Japan.
@Steven - Go look at all of the JRPG arguments that have been lobbied about WKC. Many (and I mean many) Sony fans argued that WKC was going to have a massive opening, and blow the doors off of what JRPGs have sold in Japan. If 100k is true, than it's certainly not the case.

I checked because I thought it was closer to 5:1 (I thought 4.8 for some reason), so I was even further off.

It's only a 3.1:1 lead, as oyvoyvoy said. And you're comparing Tales to a friggin' new IP. And you're assuming that the game won't continue to sell for the remainder of the week...despite apparently being sold out after the first day, with a new shipment arriving over the weekend.
Also, "barely selling more" is still selling more, which contradicts those posters that claimed the 360 sells more JRPGs in Japan than the ps3. Which was a stupid argument to make in the first place, though some had the idiocy to make it.
