aaah i love this thread twesterm.....now i wish i could change my vote for moderator of the year

Too late. Your vote is mine!

@twesty-This thread seems really off. You start off talking about whoring out the franchise, but spend a good majority of the topic just bashing the main series' quality over the last 12 years. I was expecting some rants on the handheld spinoffs, mobile spinoffs, PS2 spinoffs, and less on why you think FF VIII's main character was the least likeable. What does that really have to do with anything? Different strokes for different folks. I'm sure there's plenty of emo kids that get their jollies wacking off to Squall Leonheart.

Yeah, attention span of a gnat plus me being tired from cooking/cleaning (making my grandma truffles for Christmas) all day equals I go all over the place.  >_>

And on that note, BED!  Merry Christmas!

I don't see the problem with SE myself.
They're in business to try make money.
If they're making money milking all their fans, good for them.
I notice you only mentioned FF's on most Playstation systems, yet left out the handheld ones. Do you think the handheld versions are somehow immune from the point in your rant?

I haven't played the handheld ones (and I'm exclusing the Tactics because those are still good).

But yeah, Crisis Core is just another FFVII spinoff and I don't give a shit about it.  I would rather have them spend the time and effort into making something better.

And you're right, they're going to do what makes them money.  It's just sad all the Cloud fanboys will continue to eat this crap up because they are in fact tools.

Oh, and I stopped at FFVII because that's when the Final Fantasy franchise turned to shit.  They realized they could stop putting effort into story and character development and focus purely on making the game look good.  Well, that and somehow copying Cloud and Sephiroth.  Having anything that resembles Cloud or Sephiroth automatically adds 1 million to the sells.

I can definately see your point and to some large degree agree with it,

But yeah - It's just business.

and I agree 100% with with you with their reliance on graphics over gameplay. Tactics was pure awesome. That said though, I really enjoyed XII. And no, I can't remember ever fapping to Sephiroth lol Now Tifa on the other hand...

EDIT: and yeah, Merry Christmas!

There's nothing particularly wrong with Dissidia that wasn't wrong with Smash Bros. Brawl. They've created a franchise more than just a series. This is not a bad thing.

Of course, Final Fantasy XII was still fantastic, either the best in the series or very close to it.

Hmm, you got me on the Brawl reference as far as Dissidia goes.

Still though, the FF series has turned to crap and it saddens me that you consider FFXII as one of the best.

Do you really want to argue about whether or not Final Fantasy XII was good? I mean, I can, but chances are pretty good that it won't amount to anything unless you are both open about why you didn't like it and open-minded concerning the things I say.

So I shouldnt be excited for FFXIII because? Because you dont like it? because it's not what you think a Final Fantasy should be like? Because you dont like the main character?

You are a joke (as a gamer), not the series. If you dont like it - dont play it. Deciding what people should like and buy and what they should not is not up to you.

I like how Final Fantasy XIII looks so far, and i will be excited for it because I think it looks cool. FFXII is one of my favourite games ever and you bashing Dissidia without even playing it while people who did are saying how amazing the game is.

Final Fantasy is not made for you. It is made for people like me who can enjoy it. See? different games are made for different people. So stop bitching and crying already.

I don't think the new FF titles are as bad as you make them out. However I do agree I had more magic playing FF6 and under.

Gambit system has to be possibly one of the biggest good ideas that was most horribly mis-implemented. It was simply Too Good (tm). you could virtually not even play when it came to grinding up cash (via chains) or levels, which made it an odd mixture of pleasure (when I couldn't be bothered) and boring (when I actually wanted to play).

With possible except with FF12, the other FF games feel very linear and closed, esp in the early stages of the game.

I'm not saying I don't agree with you (I do) but do you ever make a positive thread?

Final Fantasy is like a Hollywood "Blockbuster"... well produced kitsch.

Like it or don't like it, I don't see what all the conversation is about on either side of the argument. I like it but I never really care what other people thought.

It's like discussing the artistic value of the latest Sci-fi action movie, kid comedy, pop song, or a Thomas Kinkade painting.

It either makes you have positive feelings due to its aesthetics or it doesn't.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

You don't think that this might be an overly simplistic (even unnecessarily pedantic) way to look at the situation?

Couldn't help it.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
