Forums - Gaming - Ubisoft: Disapointed by Prince of Persia's poor reception

Personally there are like 4-5 titles that came out in the last 2 months I still want to purchase but I only purchase a game when I am done with the old one, end result is I will probably be picking some of those games by the times they have started to be discounted.
If the release had been stretched accross all the year I would have picked most of them on release day....

Releasing 15+ AA titles in the same 2 months period AND at the same time Wow releases it's latest expansion is folly...
Wow players don't represent a huge amount of console owners, but I can guarantee few of them are actually thinking of purchasing console games right when they just got the expansion that has been 2 years in the making...

Actually, I found out a very surprising amount of people on my server have consoles, and most of them have not touched theirs since WOTLK came out. It is outright stupid to release ANYTHING major around the same time that Blizzard releases a game, even if it is just an expansion. Except if you are Valve or Nintendo, those are the only 2 other companies which would be fine releasing at the same time period.

gamrReview's broken review scores: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=4170835

The game was a disappointment so the disappointing sales. I don`t wanna go too deep into the points why the game sucks (If I did it for all the games I hate I would never play games anymore), so here is a "for dummies" version:

1) The prince is a dork. The Prince from SoT was easy to symphatize with, the Prince from WW was much harder because he was a jerk, this one is impossible. He is more annoying than Link from the Zelda Cartoon.

2) Not being able to die makes sense in this game because we would have to load the game again every time we die. However, that don`t go well along with dumbed down platform and combat mechanics. Also most of the deaths in this game doesn`t come from lack of skill. Sometimes we must "kill ourselves" to grab an orb (or waste 2 minutes doing it the way yo don`t get killed). The A button do everything, so it is easy to press it one time more or less than you should (sometimes I press A instead of B on those ring on the walls). The combat is lame so they reduce your life bar and the enemies life bar. It is much easier to get "killed" this way. Also, when you are in a boss battle you get back with less than full lifebar, making subsequent deaths more likely.

3) The game is a cheap ass project disguised as an innovative title. Compared to AC the graphics really suck. Wait, graphics are not important as long as the gameplay is solid. That is the problem, what gameplay? The game feels like a Rayman game with platform options set to "auto". The combat is almost non existent and the boss battles are rematches. To kill something just press attack 3 times, then "Elika" button and repeat. Blocking isn`t that important, it just makes a easy game easier. The world is made in a way that you spend most of the time backtracking. Enter a new area, make your way to the boss/purify point, go back and take all the orbs you can, move to the next area (most times in the opposite direction you went), repeat. Why you can`t teleport to areas you already visited? Why you can`t even teleport back to the temple? Why in every area there are at least 5 orbs you can`t collect without abilities you only get much later in the game? The answer to all these questions is the same: to make the game longer. In a 15 hour game, at least 7 hours were spent backtracking. That is not innovation, it is called lazy design.

Well I don't understand this guy, It got mostly pretty high reviews. IGN gave it 87, 93 and 94 so thats awesome right there. Seems like G4 ragged on it a bit, but still. This got good reviews, I don't see weight to his argument.

I got the game for Chrismas and I have to say personally I am digging it a lot and spending a lot more time playing it than any of the last 3 Prince titles...

The open world and the fact that you can revisit old areas to collect seeds is actually really nice..

I really don't understand this. PoP looks incredible. Really one of the most beautiful games of the year.

This.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

I've heard the game is horrible but innovative yet not so bad.

To clarify, the innovation was great but the game was horrible; Ubisoft has a track record of copy pasting ideas, it's more aparant in their Dogz and Catz and Babyz games but it also exists in their other titles.

The game features something new and fresh which is good, ubisoft also understand that the game must have content the thing is they copy paste the content. So the player is stuck doing the exact same thing constantly through the game. The apparant is that they are using some kind of formula the reality is that they truely thought that was enough.
