Forums - Nintendo - CoDWaW Wii selling better than we think?

Well the game is back on sale in Amazon, i just bought it (along with GHWT and Quantum of Solace, im selling both).

I still think this game is undertracked. What with all the commersials and its sold out status everywhere (or at least most places. Sure itll never reach the 360 numbers (or even PS3 for that matter), but what it does will be good im guessing.

I think we should just face facts- cod:waw on the wii just isnt selling too well, theres no 2 ways about it. Sorry

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Yea it shows $50 for me. But I do think we are under tracking it somewhat. Hard to imagine a game with so much advertising in the US could sell so little. I mean its possible but doubtful as well. Possibly extra 100k-150k in the Americas but what do I know haha.

How do you figure that? The article linked above was from Dec 17th and seemed to only speak about launch numbers

Never argue with idiots
They bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience

"The PS2, PC, DS and Wii versions of Call of Duty: World at War, however, sold only about 200,000 units combined, something that is surely disappointing to Activision considering the advertising specifically targeting the Wii version of the game and Call of Duty's origin as a PC title."

The Wii version is unfortunately selling as bad as everybody thinks.

Well I would have figured that to be right.  I'm more concerned with December sales.  I believe our estimations for the game in America in November have been pretty spot on but after that it's hard to imagine with all the advertizing in December that there would be no increases in sales.  Really hard to imagine actually.  But we could be spot on as well.

they are basing that off NDP and that was also November only. So 2 things could be true.

1. NDP is low becuase they do not track Walmart, TRU and other big Wii stores.

2. The game finally caught on in December. Due to word of mouth (the game is really good from what I hear, not crappy like you think) and TV advertising. CoD is now a mainstream name, I can see alot of kids asking for it for the Wii.

I think it is a combination of the 2, I think NDP undertracked it, and I think it has taken off since then. I think VGC could be off on this one 25-40% in NA. No idea in others since I do not live there, and dont know how much it is being advertised.

Also, it seems they were major shipments of the game on the 22-24th, that is why it was easier to find this week.

Also I really doupt whoever said all the stores around them were sold out of the HD versions..... They printed so many copies of that it would be having MK Wii type sales or more if it were selling out.

the reason the Wii version is rare is because it is doing MUCH better than an expected.

So unless Activision only expected 100k... in Nov and double that in Dec.... well... either way the fact it is sold out means it is doing better than activision projected, and that is what really matters (as far as Modern Warfare 2 and future titles getting quality Wii treatment)

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

@bigjon: I think expections of the stores have more to do with it then expectations of activision. Sores base their inventory largely on preorders, and the problem is wii owners tends to do less preorders then 360/ps3 owners.

yea, true. I am in no way implying that the Wii version's sales are even close to the HD versions, but I do think that it could be undertracked by about 50%... I know this is really unscientific... but the BB closest to me got 15 Wii versions, 50 PS3 versions, and 75 360 versions in their most recent restock. The Wii version is sold out but the other 2 are in good supply... right now ioi has CODWaW selling- 150k for the PS3 and only 28k for the Wii version (in NA)... He is tracking CoD:WaW behind Walle, Monopoly, We Ski and the Price is Right.................. I am sorry but none of those games are sold out anywhere, and I am pretty sure retailers did not order more Walle than CoD. I think that last Weeks CoD Wii sales were prolly around 70k which would be about 50% less than the PS3 version, and about 1/8 of the HD COD sales.

ok, to finally respond to you (lol talk about sidetracked) I think that Activsion set it expectations partially off retailer orders. Right now the game is selling MORE than retailer orders, that Cant be a bad thing.

To be honest the reason I think people are seeing it sold out on Wii is because shops have WAY less stock of it.

As I have said many many times before Activision dropped the ball on this game on Wii. They didn't send out enough supply. However this was when it launched, but I still feel the stock wasn't replenished any time soon.

that would explain the million COD:WAW Wii commericials...

I mean why not waste millions of dollars advertising a game that we did not make any of...

They made quite a bit, just nothing compared to the HD versions.
