Forums - Sony - PS3 price cut: One step forward and two steps back

I just recently went on g4tv.com and read an article about how the ps3 cost have dramatically decreased. If there is a price cut, there will be a huge advantage for the consumers but a huge disadvantage for the manufacturers. In my opnion, either way, Sony loses. So, is there any other options of getting out of this problem? Should they sit back and watch themselves lose more money or do something, make that price cut and lose twice as much money?

Which is the right answer? In fact, is their even a solution?

I think a price cut now will do nothing to be honest, the 360 has all the momentum. Wait until a big release next year. And no, that does not mean killzone 2

Once again.

They are saving the price cut for a later time when it will matter more.

Gran Turismo 5 is more like it...eh

Well we dont know when gt5 will be out. If its 2009 thats far too late. Maybe...uncharted 2?

They should sit back, bundle titles like KZ2 and infamous, make some welcome profit, then slash the price at Uncharted 2s launch with GT5 cheap bundles coming at a later date.

I think they should cut the price when they can make a good profit off of the PS3.

i agree

i don't think it's smart to cut the price even if they can go lower. It's possible that M$ could go even lower so whats the point better to keep the profit margin instead.

I say they only cut the price if the console sales go consistently lower than 100000/week in 2009

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

The paradoxical solution is to wait. Technology prices are dropping every day, and by this time next year they may actually be able to make a profit off a $400 PS3.

The cold hard fact is, Sony (and Nintendo and Microsoft) don't care at all how many consoles they're selling. The console wars mean nothing to them, just how much money they make. From a fanboy's perspective a price drop is awesome, as it will make the PS3 maybe compete with the 360. From Sony's perspective it's economic suicide and can pretty much only lead to the shutting down of the games division.

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.
