Forums - Sales Discussion - Will the Wii have 50% market share by the end of 2009?

NA is up for week ending 22nd august and with 100 dollar price-cuts in effect yet the wii only sells 1.7K less than PS3 and 400 less than 360...I know the hd twins outsold the wii but by only 1.7k and 400 and thats much cause wii has nothing while ps3 and 360 got 100 dollar pricecuts...

Potentially yeah, I can see the Wii doing it.

The Xbox 360 and PS3 pricedrops are an indication of their devaluation; I do feel the Wii is more valuable a console to many more people than the PS3 or Xbox 360 because it's a console for anyone. The Xbox 360 is easily aimed at male teenagers who are still young enough to think "hardcore" things and blood are cool, while the PS3 is aimed mostly at people in their 20's. The Wii has a clear lock on the mature gamer and family markets.

The 360 is aimed at American males, and those not in the Wii's target zones. The PS3 targets the exact same age category, with a particular focus on those who snub American products.

Your post reveals your fanboyism, the PS3 and 360 target identical groups. What does the PS3 have to target older people than the xbox?

As for the Wii having a "clear lock on the mature gamer." What? Studies show that most "mature gamers" who own a Wii keep it in a closet. Some women(many of which use things like Wii Fit, and not games at all) and mostly young kids are the ones that play it all the time.

nope 46 % or 47% end 2009.

The only market left is that of the ''cheap-gamers'', the ones that are still on their PS2s. I don't know the background of that market, for all we know they are shooter fans with a lowe budget and they will switch to PS3. On top of that we shouldnt underestimate the full body controllers of the HD-twins. With the right promotion they could take over the Wii. For those who already have a Wii it might be too soon but lastgen PS2 sold 120-140 units so there are enough gamers left to get to this gen. Nothing is set in stone, including the Wii's victory. OFcourse it has already a huge advantage so I won't deny that it has very good odds to win this generation. 50% marketshare is a possibility if the Wii drops it's price now, if they wait too late and Natal is widely known then who knows how it will play out.

True, the HDtwins, individually, barely outsold the Wii, which may mean that the Wii has a different customer base and Nintendo's sales will not be affected, but together they doubled the Wii's sales in America and if this continues the Wii will never achieve a %50 market share.

We won't see a pricecut in the Wii till the end of this fiscal year in march 2010.

Because Nintendo prefers to have less sales and more profit, than more sales and less profit.
For them the units sold are in the background because they actually make profit opposed to Sony and Microsoft that sell their systems for a loss.

That's why my prediction is remaining in mid 2010.

Wii Fit Plus, MH3, NSMBWii and hopefully Mario Galaxy 2 will help drive sales in the first half of 2010.

Not without a price cut it wont

Haha blizzid/Lostplanet22 - you amuse me.

All people's predictions were made on the assumption that contemporary VGCHartz numbers were accurate. Crazyman's prediction was only right because as it happened, a few days after this thread opened, the Wii got adjusted down by over a million, losing near on a full 1%

Yes, that's already been stated numerous times. It doesn't change the amusement value in the slightest.

Funny that... I never said it did.

What I was actually laughing at you in particular for was the laughable claim that "it makes crazyman look like a visionary" It is simply not true. This thread is a brilliant example of how bad Crazyman is at taking in facts and spitting out predictions.

In other words, you have no grasp of irony. Got it.
