Forums - General - What do People Think of Obama Choosing Pastor Rick Warren for Inauguration?

That's right, I meant Stevens rather than Souter. But Souter is still 69 years old. A lot can happen in eight years. But I imagine he will stick around. Stevens is so damn old! He's 87 years old!

Kennedy's replacement will be an interesting and important one. Kennedy's been a model justice, allowing himself to side with the liberals and the conservatives on the Court.

Scalia is actually around 72. Odds are even higher that he might have to retire.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Bosh! Flimshaw! Sixty-Nine years old is young for a Justice of the Supreme Court. Yeah, Stevens is quite old; the only currently-serving justice to serve during the Burger Court. If and when Obama has to nominate someone, he will nominate Sotomayor...mark my word. He will not pass on the opportunity to nominate a female who would be the first Hispanic Justice.

I dunno. I just feel like he owes gay people SOMETHING after this.

It's just really eh... gay people are hurting.

Gay people aren't even the new black people because black people had strong polticians who said "Fuck popular opinion... this is wrong."

Gay people are more like the jews before the holocaust or something.

I said before.  Not during or something.

Like before the Nazi party came to power, world wide blaming jews was a sport.

"They're trying to steal your children"

"They're ruining the economy"

"They're ruining our way of life"

They were basically the scapegoat of the world...

Gay people are a pretty big scapegoat to the world now too.

I'm sorry, you really need to gain some perspective ...

Systemic prejudice and genocide are several orders of magnitude worse than being able to live your life exactly as you choose to, will full equal rights to everything other people have with the only real negative being an argument over a definition.

Are peopel ignoring where i said before the holocaust?

Although gay people are systematically rounded up and killed in many parts of the world.

There is more then just an argument to a definition though.

They can't get tax befits, hospital rights, and generally get discriminated against in housing and other such things when it's apparent they're homosexuals.

I understood what you mean, Kasz.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

You missed the point entirely ...

With the exception of a little piece of paper, a homosexual couple has exactly the same rights as a heterosexual couple. For thousands of years this piece of paper didn't exist and marriage was the exclusive domain of the church, and people survived. In what way is this "Systemic Prejudice" that is similar in scale to anything that Black people faced before the civil rights movement, or Jewish people faced before the hollocaust?

Except... tax rights, housing rights,

heck you can just not hire people because they're gay in america in a lot of states.

You have full legal rights in like... 41 of 50 states to discriminate against people beceause they're gay.

The only difference is gay people can "hide" so to speak.

Obama should at least try and push through ENDA.  I mean that's already in the congress.

Not being covered by the Civil Rights Act is near those levels... it's well more then just that.

Though marriage was never the exclusive domain of the church.  I mean marriage predates recorded history.
