heck you can just not hire people because they're gay in america in a lot of states.
You have full legal rights in like... 41 of 50 states to discriminate against people beceause they're gay.
The only difference is gay people can "hide" so to speak.
Obama should at least try and push through ENDA. I mean that's already in the congress.
Not being covered by the Civil Rights Act is near those levels... it's well more then just that.
Though marriage was never the exclusive domain of the church. I mean marriage predates recorded history.
