Yeah DQ is not that popular in the West. I already saw so many top 10 JRPG threads/youtube vids but it is very seldom to see a DQ game in the top 10. And so far I know only Naznatips loves DQ that is all.

I've only played one DQ game (DQIV), but assuming they all have the same gameplay, you can add me to the list.

Yeah, I understand. It depends on what series the game would be coming from for how early in production I get hyped. For Example, a Metroid game would hype me just from being announced. I don't need to see anything of it before I KNOW I will buy it. This is because its my number one series. Now a different game that would probably be like my 30th favorite series would probably need information or a gameplay video to get me hyped. The higher the number the more that is required to get me hyped. And if it is a new IP I would probably be hyped depending on what my first impressions on the game is, what genre it falls under, how much information I have, and many other things. Alot of people get hyped from visuals though, and if a game looks nice then they would probably get hyped over that. So I guess it depends on the person, and what their preferences are.

@Yushire Crystal Bearers is the first of the series that seems to look like an actual final fantasy game. If you watch videos and never seen a video of it before or played the game, and somebody didn't tell you what game it was I think it would be pretty hard to guess. Some things like moogles and magicite could give you a hint,but if you watched anything without those things you probably would have never guessed. It's just like FFXII. If it wasn't named Final Fantasy I probably would have never thought of it as a Final Fantasy.

 Not to discourage you but the gameplay of later Dragonquest was becoming slower than ever, and the story was the same as other dargonquest games. More onto dungeon crawling and sidequests. DQ VIII was perfect example theres even instances that annoys you, like you suddenly interrupted in game battle and a message appears "the <insert enemy name here> smirk at you and I say WTF?!! :?

For everyone here that likes fast games Dragonquest isnt for you. I think you cant stand 5 hours of playing with it.

Really? Yeah, I noticed it too. Crystal bearers the 2nd trailer was like a real final Fantasy to me. The intro and the title screen alone excites me, its like after watching 3 seconds OMG! Final Fantasy :] *glomps*

So the other crystal chronicles arent like final fantasy at all eh? sorry I dont own a GC so I dont know...

@Yushire They have some roots that I mentioned like Moogles, and Magicite, but other than that..................no. Crystal Bearers on the other hand looks like a Final Fantasy game.

yushire, DQ VII goes at a fast pace (especially if you set the message speed to top). It's just the grinding is high. But it plays and loads* like a 2D game.

* That was either the real reason the graphics were like that or a benefit.

It was also marketed as a Final Fantasy game. As for the name being slapped on, couldn't you say that for most games that originate from final fantasy? They don't really have anything to do with the main series. Also the Japanese name had final fantasy in it too. Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden

 Really? I've played it in PSX when I borrowed it from a friend, Im bored with it that I didnt bother to tweak the options. Then DQ VIII I think DQ VIII is the last Dragonquest game I will purchased. Maybe its not my thing but I just dont like the gameplay.

@sc----> OH I see, so theres a reason for claude's post after all. I think the 2nd trailer gets me to think its a real final fantasy game that I thought everyone's hype for it. I THINK NOT... The 2nd trailer was the best Wii game trailer though.
