Forums - Nintendo - So FF:CB bigger than Dragon Quest X? Fan's reactions on the news...

Just a quick question, maybe going a bit off-topic, but this thread is in a way worthless so I might as well steer it in a working direction.

What is up with the hype for Crystal Bearers? Do we know anything about the game outside of it's one CG trailer which has told us absolutely nothing? From what I've noticed, the original had a lukewarm reception from fans and reviewers alike. Nothing terrible, but hardly anything special. If I were to ask people here to name their top 10 Gamecube games, I don't think Crystal Chronicles would pop up all too often. So I'm just wondering. Am I missing some critical piece of a puzzle that is making this game a big mouthpiece towards future Wii exclusives or is this merely fans placing another notch on their belt no matter what their personal interest is in the game?

 Im answering your question, because FF: CB was the only exclusive Final fantasy game for the Wii, even its a spin off. So everyone actually yelling if they've seen the first FF:CB trailer at E3 2006.I can show you the video if you want to. Its like MOH: H2 even it only have average review of 7.7 Wii gamers eat that game up because its the first FPS that tacked on with FPS controls.

@Onyxmeth

There're more than CG trailer, there're gameplay trailer already (not to say I didn't see any NOT prerendered videos of FFXIII). I just can't stand SqE games any more - mainly 'cos of main FF "let's milk fans" sereis and endless spin-offs - but there's a hope (remember, TWEWY?) that SqE is capable of being innovative and inspired game developer... well, sometimes.

Ok so you're obviously taking the position I proposed in the latter half of my final sentence.

@mai-My Flash Player is fucked to bits so I can't watch any videos right now(including porn ) so can you just give me a rundown of what happens in this trailer and what the gameplay seems like based on the footage? I have honestly never heard of there being a gameplay trailer of Crystal Bearers. I hope you don't mean that other game Echoes of Time.

@Onyxmeth I liked the original, and especially liked Ring of Fates. While the original wouldn't be in my top ten GC games it would definitely be in my top 20. I'm hyped for Chystal Bearers not only because I'm a fan of the series, but because the trailer(not all CG, there was a few seconds of gameplay) showed that it isn't low budget like the other two were. Now if I liked a game that was pretty much a side note and low budget, I would probably like a game with a much higher budget and what seems to be alot more work put into it. From what we saw of the gameplay, which was very little, the battle system looks much much much faster paced than that of Crystal Chronicles. The game also is said to be a single player focused game opposed to the multilayer focus of the other two games, which I prefer. Basically I think the hype is produced in a similar manner that the hype for the XIII games. The game just expresses a high budget and flashy visuals to produce most of the hype. I personally am hyped because of a mixture of me liking the previous games, and the trailer appealing to me as a game that will probably be good. I do think that there will be more reasons to justify the hype when we are closer to release though. As for now we know very very little about the game.

I like the intro song of the second trailer, very Final Fantasy like and the crystal just as like the crystals in Final Fantasy anthology Final fantasy V and Final fantasy chronicles Final fantasy IV.

@Onyxmeth

sc94597 said enough.

There're not too much anticipated jRPGs besides those of them, that going to be released on handhels. Fragile just beacuse of art-design (gameplay not flawless though from very little of what I've seen), FFCC:TCB (as long as I'm not interested in main FF installment... may be, I'll rent FFXIII), Star Ocean 4... that's it!

The only thing the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series shares with the Final Fantasy Franchise is the name, and some things like moogles. Otherwise it focuses on extremely different battle systems which are much more action orriented even compared to Final Fantasy games that are in real time, more puzzlelike themes, more dungeon focused, stories target different audiences and use different cliched(I would say crystal chronicles has much less cliches), crystal chronicles up until now was always multiplayer focused, there are countless other details. I wouldn't really classify it as a spinoff in the same sense I don't classify Final Fantasy Tactis, or Mana(research it, if you don't believe it originated from final fantasy) as spinoffs. They seem to be seperate series that square enix used the Final Fantasy name for them to sell more. Think of it this way. Final fantasy is a franchise. From that franchise there is a main series(which has the highest budget, and best team members working on it) then there are several other series that have lower budgets varying on the series. Then there are true spinoffs of the main series like crisis core, and even movie spinoffs which could actually have higher budgets than the other series. Then you even have spinoffs of the other series. So yeah it is complicated, but I don't think the classifications spinoff and main series only work to well. Especially considering there are different types.

Ok. In a way you explained it perfectly and then raised many more questions. I guess it's just the Wii fans getting stuck in the same hype mentality fans of the other two console have, which is hyping the CG. I guess I just feel that a lot of GC gamers would have this in their top 20 or 30 just like you but are hyping the new one like a top 10 release.

This may stem from my own standings on hype though. I'm typically someone that waits for in-game pics, hands-on reports, developer interviews and gameplay videos before I get behind the hype of a game, unless it's the sequel to something I have played, and then I'll give the early hype at the same level of interest I have in the original, meaning a top 20 game will get top 20 hype until the developers start opening the floodgates with info.

I hope you at least partially understand where I'm coming from that this game is getting what seems to be an unusual amount of hype for something with so little info and with such a second tier status in gaming terms.

Really? But the crystals and the intro song and the battles and the steam punk and the art design and the airship, etc... Its really Final Fantasy to me. Atleast with the second trailer :/

And the game was story and singleplayer focus right? WOW never thought the Crystal chronicles have a huge makeover since E3 2006.
