Forums - General - yeah... I am not feeling the recession... at all.

@OP: what country do you live in? I mean, since you measure gas in Liters, I guess you don't live in the US...

Um... I'm not really directly affected... apparently my future inheritance from my grandfather has lost some of its value though (bad investments)... not a lot, but it's somewhat significant, like, under 10%, but over 5%... Gas is WAY down... My parents still have their jobs... My aunt lost her job and is looking for another while my uncle works overtime...

My parents never bought me games in the first place (minus Xmas & B-day)... that's the only thing I really buy...

And I spent about twice as much money than last year, or than I ever have before...

So, meh... I think it's very exaggerated in America... but then again, our media's "coverage" on the economy has been bullshit for the last 8 years...

I work in the automotive industry in Australia. The retail side to be more precise, we are beginning to find it very tough!!! Sales are down by 30 odd % , and when you survive on a commission thats not ideal...

But luckily enough i was smart enough to fix my mortgage a year ago while interest rates were rising...They've now fallen to more than 1% lower than i'm fixed at...Which would mean i'd have to pay $58,000 dollars to 'break' my contract with the bank and get back onto variable interest.

Finally, just to help my situation, My girlfriends brother who was living with us and paying board has now moved out! Which means we now need to pay an extra $150 a week...

Amazingly the only thing i've done to cut expenditure is gamble less/better, and funnily enough i seem to have more money/ be better off than before...(i think i was drinking and gambling more with my GF's brother...)

I always look for a woman who has a tattoo. I see a woman with a tattoo, and I’m thinking, okay, here’s a gal who’s capable of making a decision she’ll regret in the future.

Pretty good.

As a property investor, with prices plummeting, it's making for some great deals on the market. Cheap(er) houses are getting forclosed on left & right, so I am able to buy them at reasonable costs, fix them up, and then rent them out at a profit.

I have the best job of my life as a business analyst at a video game company...So I can't complain there.

The issue with the recession is that it's trimming the fat from retarded industries like the housing market, and US auto industry - 2 markets that have been over-inflated for years that deserve what's coming to them.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Recession has crippled my family's finances in every way :(

No problem for me, I dont live in the US and my country hasnt seen much trouble in our economy. Im a student too, so nothing affects me much.

Just some products are more expensive, but thats not a problem, just for the poorer ones that have seen the necessity of choosing the best place to buy, where products are cheaper. There hasnt been any company going to hell and unemployment is in its lowest level ever. I guess in the next year we will see more trouble, but nothing big, I think our economy is in a good position in this crisis.

My parents are doctors so I doubt they will ever loose their jobs, and they have been winning more mney than before. I guess the crisis affects more the US, when I was there last month there where a lot of places going out of buisness.

He's not measuring gas in liters... he's measuring petrol in litres, and pricing it in pence. You can't get much more British than that. ^^

(oh, it even says so in his profile. Brighton, England)

It's definitely affected me. My dad and I went from buying $1-million dollars a day in commodities to only $7,000 a day now... the market has just beat us down pretty hard. Oh well, I still got my gaming consoles to keep me warm!

I'm currently in an industry which sees pretty constant work regardless of the ecconomic climate, which was a negative when things were booming but is actually a pretty good thing right now ...

My rent went down $200 per month, I will (did) see a modest $200 per month raise this year, and house prices in my city will (probably) fall 10% to 20% over the next 12 months which will enable me to buy a decent place. I was pretty defensive with my investments so I didn't lose any money when the market crashed, and I've made about 25% since I took my money out of my money market fund and started trading wish I new more about trading so I could make that much on the money in my bank account.

Overall I'm doing pretty well, but I am a little worried about unemployment rising to a level where it is difficult to find another job (I'm very bored of my current job) and the poor economy hurting the people around me.

yay, my situation posted above

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
