Not sure how it affects gaming, but if you watch alot of sport then invest into it.
Someone at a store told me that 100 hz is making analog input signals look better.

Hz is related to the TV's refresh rate, More hz = better for fast moving images. It really won't have so much impact on live TV as the method of filming is a limiting factor.
Tube Tv's have a refresh rate, it's just not advertised. Current LCD TV's can hit up to 120hz there should be no detriment to your picture especially while playing computer generated inputs(games PC etc.)
I'd actually pay more attention to these factors: Dynamic Contrast Ratio, Contrast Ratio, Brightness rating, Backlight type, and Response time.
More importantly make sure the TV runs at 1080p and was made by either Samsung or a Japanese company.

Why is that?
I'm planning to get a Philips with a 2ms responce time.

I think mostly because samsung is regarded as one of the best developers of LCD
100 Hz means that the TV refreshes 100 times per second.
60 Hz means that the TV refreshes 60 times per second.
Beyond that, I can't help you too much.

Oh, Phillips are great to so no worries. I just said that because its a well known fact that you cant go wrong with a Japanese TV (Panasonic, Sony, Pioneer, JVC, Toshiba, Hitachi etc). But you also cant go wrong with Samsung and Phillips.
