OR the Wii version has not flopped as bad as NDP or VGC would have us to think...

just a thought. Dont be shocked when fiscals come out and this thing is under tracked by 30-50%... remember Walmart, Target and TRU and not tracked by NDP... those 3 places strike me as where this game would sell best.

Do we track those locations here at VGC or no?

Also in regards to your quote to me, of course HD development is going to come down in 5 years. The biggest reason why is because of developers making games now for the 360 and PS3. If we went with Yushire's scenario of all development going to Wii, or even taking it further a scenario where they never were HD consoles and performed comparitively to the Wii, we would be so far behind HD development that when it finally came time to jump in, the situation may be a bit more manageable, but still expensive as shit to develop for because no one would have any experience.

What people don't get is that it's not HD costs that are making developers and publishers get in the red or close down. These additional costs have simply exposed their inadequacies at managing their budgets and their staff. I don't see well managed studios/publishers like Blizzard, Valve and Epic bitching all that much about the costs of HD bringing them down, and not a single one has developed for the Wii thus far.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Is the Wii version being advertised?

I don't watch TV, clue me in.

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)
PC: 10^9
Wii: 10^8

I've seen the commercial 3 times in the past 4 days if that's any indication.

Pixel Art can be fun.

There is no way Activision profits more on WaW on wii then the 360/PS3 versions.  There is no way of even knowing if the wii version has made any money at all.  We know 100% that the HD versions are making massive amounts of money.  The HD engine was already made and had very slight upgrades to it.  The entire game engine needed to be tranfered to the wii, they also sell the wii version for less aswell.

GTA4 has also sold 11.5mil units. They would of only needed to sell around 4mil copies to make money.  They also received 50mil from Ms for special DLC.  Bioshock would of also made money, around 1mil units would of made money, with a 20% porting cost to the PS3 it only needed to sell 200k.

Without a solid development cost figure ... that is nothing but conjecture as far as the profit is concerned.  That being said, I agree that they probably are making money on those versions.  But we don't really know how much they made or how much is needed to be sold to make a profit.

As for tracking, it is interesting that the three places metiioned as being non-tracked by NPD -- Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, and Target (the last of which I had not heard before) tend to have much larger Wii displays than the other systems. I was in a Target today and the Wii section was as large as the PS3 and Xbox 360 sections COMBINED.  What this means is that if NPD is using the old model, it is consistently underestimating Wii software sales. (Also, Wii bargain software sales are probably undertracked as they fly from their special displays near the registers at Target).

We knew its flopped, HD versions are 10 times sales better than the Wii version especially the 360. And it still continues selling, so WHY?

Is it because Activision realized that theyre profiting more on the Wii version than in Ps3 and 360 versions? Thats whats happened with GTA IV and Bioshock with Take 2, even its million sellers they cant keep up to make a profit with those games.

It seem we seen change with the third parties already. 3rd parties states huge losses because of the production and development cost of making HD games in PS360. I think soon many third parties will jump ship to the Wii because they cant stand making games anymore in HD consoles...

Are you asking why they're marketing the Wii version when it gets outsold so many times over? I think the second part answers the first part.

There's no way Activision could be profiting more from the Wii version than the other three versions. First of all, it;s built on an existing engine, while the Wii's was built for this game. Plus even if the Wii's version gives them more profit for every copy sold, it still isn't selling nearly enough to turn as much of a profit.

Regarding Bioshock and GTA IV, do you have some sort of link that says neither has made a profit? Something is telling me that somewhere along the lines, a game that has sold over 10 million copies will turn some sort of profit. I won't comment on Bioshock, but still, link please.

What is going to happen when Nintendo finally goes HD? It's still going to cost money to make these games, and plenty of it. If all developers do switch to Wii development, then what's going to happen down the line when Nintendo goes HD? Same scenario, they'll need to eat the bigger costs.

About GTA IV and Bioshock I have proof of this; its even in this thread:

http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=53400

The only 3rd parties that are immune are Ubi and Activision but we cant tell if Activision and Ubisoft really profiting next year especially when HD userbase are shrinking and Wii userbase are growing. Theres even a thread here in Nintendo discussion about Take 2's quote; "We just cant ignore the Wii installbase, we just cant." In that quote its a sign of desperation to me.

I even wonder if HD generation was over and the Wii generation will start in 2009.

Dunno if it's working, but here are the current amazon ranks for W@W:

Wii: 69
ps3: 46
360: 8

Wonder what they were before the ads?

Nowhere in that topic does it mention that Grand Theft Auto IV and Bioshock haven't turned a profit. It says Take Two hasn't turned a profit, and that can stem from many areas. Something is telling me the 10 million+ selling GTA IV is not part of the problem. Here's a quote from the report you provided to support my claim. Pay special attention to the bolded.

We've also signed new agreements with the senior members of the Rockstar Games label, a team that has produced some of the industry's most extraordinary hits. These actions were taken in the interest of creating long-term shareholder value, and we believe they have also better positioned the Company to weather an increasingly challenging economic climate."

Yup that sure sounds like Rockstar is part of the problem at Take Two. Try again Yushire. Your HD console doom and gloom is getting old. There is plenty of room to profit on those consoles with competent management and good talent. I've yet to see a rebuttal from you as to why some of the strongest third parties, Valve, Blizzard and Epic are all flourishing without the assistance of the Wii.

^I agree.

Also, I know at least one copy was sold today. I recommended it to a customer. :)

I wont argue on you anymore, but like I said, 3rd parties cant ignore the Wii anymore. We could see big change during 2009. Im posting this just to let everyone know; NOT ALL WII OWNERS ARE CASUAL GAMERS.

The hardcore games only sell on HD consoles are just propoganda, theres no truth to it. If not, even in vgchartz charts COD WAW isnt selling right now and could sell 100,000 in its lifetime but thats whats not happening.
