FYI, BK has been an MS partner for awhile - remember the 3 XBLA-esque games you could buy at Burger King for $3 a few months ago?
The big question: isn't Burger King a coke-owned subsidiary? All of the BK's I've been to only serve Coca Cola products, and not Pepsi (the one hosting the H3 line of soft drinks).
Either way, the hype is deafening - at my local high school, we have bomb threats whenever Halo 2 launched, and probably will on Sept 25th as well.

well that over exposed campain is going to piss off all the Halo 3 hater... they are going to be pissed from end of august to probably november lol... seeing halo stuff everywhere they go :)....
but with a large scale addvertising strategy like that we could see the XB jumping for the holiday season more than we thought... when you see how many shitty movies work with the same formula (yeas it's cheaper but also does way more entries so we can compare)....
and for people thinking it will be a bomb.... I don't believe it... first they know about halo 2 problems... and second even halo 2 was way better than most FPS i have played lately on PC for the solo campaign story (DOOM 3 and co all sucked ass when it came to the solo story, they didn't suck actually they didn't have a story lol) like GOW which was fun to play but damn annoying when it comes to the story....i did like the cheesy lines though " I always fuck assholes on the first date" I think I still laugh a t that one when I replay the game (if i don't skip it)
No one really says it'll be a bomb. But to everyone, a bomb can be various numbers. Under 6 million WW would probably be considered a bomb.....Despite the fact it'd make MS/Bungie hundreds of millions of dollars.
I just wonder if this is MS's strategy: promote H3 and hype it to the high heavens, and hopefully land a pre-emptive strike against SMG and SSBB - have Halo3 still selling 250k+ copies a week by the time SMG comes out.
Who knows. I'm still not a Halo fan, so I really don't care outside of the fact that more X360 owners means more JRPGs for me.

The highest opening day sales for a movie, EVER, was Spiderman 3, and that was 'only' $59 million. Heck, total gross for Spidy was $336 million and H2 did a full third of that on day one.
When you think about how much main stream hype and advertising latches on to a successful movie franchise, is it any wonder that similar things are happening with a video game that blows away any kind of numbers the entertainment industry is used to seeing?

Or how much money MS has...but there is A LOT of hype surrounding this game. I expect it to be a fantastic title, even if it isn't as good as Gears of War and/or Killzone 2.

well mark rein already said that it's better than GOW I don't see why he would be bashing his own title just for fun....
At the same time, $59m/$10 per person = 5.9 million people opening day. (rounded up for ease of math)
$125m/$50 per person = 2.5 million people opening day. (I don't know what halo 2 cost opening day, but $50 makes the math easy)
Thats why i don't understand all this hype... the number of people out there who play video games is so much smaller than the number of people who see movies. I mean, I don't overly care about the hype (IMO, the sooner gaming is mainstream the better). But with movies, there is a much smaller barrier to entry. I think its still too expensive at $8.50 a ticket around here, but either way $8.50 is easier to justify than either $60 or $300.
I mean, if MS wants to spend the money to do this, more power to them. I personally just think the marketing dollars could go into more successful avenues.
Also, re: any other video game doing this... Pokemon did it. Like hardcore.
