yes, but now gamestop is saying that not only it but eb games and others combined with gamespot =4 million

im finding this hard to believe, if they are talking about every singe pre order in america from every store who knows whats possible but im expecting that as a high world wide preorder guess

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

1m could well be "consumer preorders", with 4m pre-ordered/shipped to retailers. Halo2 sold 2.5m first week.

It would be nice to know for sure the real number of preorders.... The hype is getting out of hand, though. How many times has any movie that you can remember lived up to the hype when it made so many public appearances in food, toys, media, etc.?

The 4M pre-orders has pretty much been debunked (at least concerning the original May 10 posting).  It certainly wouldn't surprise me if preorders are quite a bit higher than 1M, though.  Gameston/EB games has something like 4000 stores and if they average 200/store that's 800K alone without any online orders whatsoever.  Apparently they account for about 1/4 of gaming sales.  I would guess that Halo 3 will reach the same preorder or slighltly higher status that Halo 2 did.

Just a side note -- the Gamestop near my house (quite a small store) said they have about 225 preorders (and counting) so far... That's an awful lot for a single store -- especially considering I'm way the hell out in the burbs and it's a smaller store.

I would assume it has around or over 1m consumer preorders. At EB/GS, whenever you ask them for something, they always ask:

Do you want to pre-order Halo 3 ?

I asked them why the heck they'd ask that, and they said that everyone has H3 on preorder. They have well over 200 preorders as of last month. This is a smaller EB/GS, probably like KN. It's in a town of 30,000 people or so.

So I would say 1m preorders is probably close to what consumers actually have on order. 4m could be retailer orders/MS's shipment forecast of H3 on launch week.

Hopefully MS can hit 4m in the first 2-3 weeks for shipments. September 25th is going to be madness. I wish I could goto EB to look (and laugh). If EB/GS had enough stock to fill preoders on launch day + never sell out that week, we could be looking at 2 million copies first week pretty easily.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Link to the story. The 1 million preorders was announced by Microsoft themselves.

Also, 1 million Halo 3 pre orders so far, Halo 2 had 1.5 million with a much bigger userbase.

And who knows, the number of preorders could rise dramatically in the next 2-3 weeks.  I'm also impressed that they made a deal with Burger King and so many other companies.

Ahh, no fun. Why are you all arguing over how many Halo 3 preorders there were instead of talking about this delightful looking cuisine?
