But, unlike RE4 where the controls really made a huge difference, would this be the same for MP1/2? I know I wouldn't re-buy them.

I would probably pay as much as $70 for the box set with revamped controls, but if they redid puzzles, bosses, etc I'd pay a bit more.

Also, why don't you think the controls will make a huge difference? Look at Prime 1, there were tons of control problems to the game, samus was sluggish, aiming was difficult at best and you had to be stationary to manually aim. There are massive improvements that could be made.

I LOVED the controls for Metroid Prime. For me, it was the first game I had played since Mario 64 where the controls really felt transparent to me and I felt like I had direct control over the character.

I think I am sure that I will like the new controls more because I, like you, read [too much] previews etc on MP3 and even though I haven't tried it yet I have full confidence in Retro to deliver spectacular controls.

On the other hand I will always say that Prime's controls scheme was the best for first person games with the GC controller.

Yeah, with the GC controller there wasn't a whole lot more they could do for the genre, I won't argue that one.  And just so I am clear, I don't think the controls were horrible, I just never felt like they were special (to me special is when everything feels like a natural extension of your body). Given the choices they had I don't know that anyone could come up with a better control scheme, so in that regard if you want to say it was the "perfect GC control setup" I might be able to get on board that idea.

The controls in the first game were really natural for someone who doesn't like FPS games like me. I'll see whether the new controls are better or worse, and if they're better I would buy a box set for £40 ($80).

Improvements I would like:

- Prime menus replaced with Prime 2 menus

- Both Metroid and Super Metroid included as free VC downloads (In Prime, Metroid could be unlocked only by connecting Metroid Fusion, which i had but many didn't.)

- Prime 2 dark world textures given much more detail and variety (in addition to an expected graphics overhaul)

- Make every boss harder in some way

If you are interested in trying Ubuntu or Linux in general, PM me and I will answer your questions and help you install it if you wish.

Just kiss the tip.

I know make it so you can only damage it when it's in boost ball form! A slow tedious fight with ball bombs!

I played a little bit of one. But I still hate console controls for shooters. If they released a boxed set like this, I'd buy it even if it was $80-$100 because I really want to play the first two all the way through and I don't see myself going back to analog sticks for aiming.

1 & 2 used a lock on system for aiming, no analog aiming required!

 ....

Hope you enjoy the games =)

Welcome on board :P.

It is a hardcore game through and through. You will get your ass kicked by bosses. You will be stumped by the sometimes complex, but never overbearing, exploration.
"You'll never want to play any shooter with dual analog sticks ever again - it's THAT good.". - Gametrailers

The lock on works fine for Prime 1 and 2, because they are more about exploring (read:backtracking in 2) than shooting. 3 looks like it is going to please shooter fans and adventure fans. Still the boxed set would be nice, though unlikely (read my above posts for why I think it won't happen).

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
