Forums - Sony - The Wait Is Over: Why Now Is The Time To Buy A PS3

That is one really awkward article. First it lists off a bunch of reasons to get the PS3 because it is going to be good soon/eventually, and then pulls up the Emotion Engine bit, claiming waiting too much longer will be waiting too long.

I agree that backward compatibility is paramount for the PS3 to get anywhere until spring 2008. But... most of the reasons other than that are either mediocre, well-known, or otherwise uninteresting enough to really pull that much extra support.

PS3: 5.51m/51w, avg 108,039/w (up 239)
360: 12.93m/102w, avg 126,764/w (up 625), leads PS3 by 7.42m (up 70k), avg lead 18,725/w (up 386)
Wii: 13.52m/51w, avg 265,098/w (dn 1,102), leads PS3 by 8.01m (up 90k), avg lead 157,059/w (dn 1,341)

If 360 sales stabilize, PS3 sales increases needed to pass 360 by...
01/08: (008w) +875.8%, 04/08: (021w) +344.4%, 07/08: (034w) +219.3%, 10/08: (047w) +163.5%
01/09: (060w) +131.8%, 04/09: (073w) +111.4%, 07/09: (085w) +098.1%, 10/09: (099w) +086.7%
If Wii sales stabilize, PS3 sales increases needed to pass Wii by...
01/08: (008w) +1072.%, 04/08: (021w) +498.4%, 07/08: (034w) +363.4%, 10/08: (047w) +303.1%
01/09: (060w) +269.0%, 04/09: (073w) +246.9%, 07/09: (085w) +232.6%, 10/09: (099w) +220.3%
If PS2 sales freeze, Wii sales increases needed to pass PS2 (as of Mar07, 108.4m) by...
2008: (008w) +4373.8%, 2009: (060w) +0496.5%, 2010: (112w) +0219.6%, 2011: (165w) +0116.9%
2012: (217w) +0064.9%, 2013: (269w) +0033.1%, 2014: (321w) +0011.5%, 2015: (376w) -0004.8%
At +0% it will pass it in 358w, the week ending September 19th, 2014, at an age of 409w (7y44w).
Current age of PS2: 7y37w.

Isnt the emotion engine problem fixed with the firmware update 1.8?

If anything, now is the time to pick up a 360. PS3 will have to wait another 6-9 months in my opinion (I won't be even looking at them for at least 2 years, but you can blame that on the still "$999 AU" price tag we have here).

I tend to agree with this assessment.

No better time then now to pick up a 360 and get the jolly red ring of death.

Persumably, the RRoD issues are being fixed right now and should be resolved in the newly-stocked ones soon. Taking pot shots is pretty low, Hus.

No better time now than to pick up a PS3 and let it collect dust until the worthwhile titles finally arrive. I mean, who'd want to pick up a new system that already has a bunch of really good titles released for it?

But of course, Sony is allowed to release number 10 of a series and be praised while the moment the Wii does it, it's a rehash. And since most of the upcoming MS titles are brand new series, they obviously are going to suck. And last but not least, all casual games on the Wii are kiddy but casual games on the PS3 are triple A titles.

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

Still trying to blame the red ring ehh, just mad that microsoft has a better lineup this christmas, but no worries i do look forward to getting a ps3 when the games are actually out

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

I hope you're not serious with that paragraph. I thought it has been quite obvious that Sony has been working hard on creating new IP's. I mean this holiday season alone:

Heavenly Sword, Lair, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Folklore, Eye of Judgement, EchoChrome, and even the Home service. On top of the already released IP's such as Resistance and MotorStorm.

Hell, Microsoft's boasting of "Halo 3! GTA IV! and Madden '08!" seems to fit your statement a tad more.

It was fully meant as sarcasm as oddly enough everything that is positive for Sony has no effect on either the Wii or 360 according to Sony fanboys. A pricedrop helps the PS3 but not the 360. New IPs help the PS3 but not the Wii or 360. Old IPs are rehashes on the Wii & 360 but completely worth buying a PS3 for. I have no problem saying I'm biased towards the Wii but I also try to refrain from double standards.

Oh yes, and I almost forgot that on the PS3 sequels of average games are going to be awesome but sequels of awesome games on the other consoles are going to end up sucking come release.
