Forums - Gaming - How will future generations think about the 7th generation?

How do you think people will think about the wii,360 and ps3? Well they might think it as a turning point in gaming, or,How the 360 could be the new snes. Or how sony fell from its position. What do you think?

I was going to say something like that

i think it'll be viewed as a first step into the future of gaming. That being said i don't think it will be overly positive. Kind of a mix between the oldschool and what will then be the new way of things

When looking back on the 7th generation people may suggest the following:

The X360 is the new SNES, both great game libraries and 45 million + selling consoles.
The Wii is the new PS2 - sell over 140 million consoles and huge library of games of varying quality and market leader, sets new sales record for consoles.
The PS3 is the new N64 - arguably with the few stand out games of its generation but under performing terms of sales and a step down from the previous generation. SNES to N64 sharp fall in sales. PS2 to PS3 sharp fall in sales.

I think people will view this as new beginning becasue its not only about the hardcore anymore. Everyone is trying to tap into the casual market since nintendo showed them us it could be done.

 more/less this.

also the gen as a whole is the first big step into online content/gaming on consoles.

Yes Dreamcast was the first, and there were ports on the others but, it really wasn't major.  XBOX Live was big for Halo but most games really didn't utilize it.  I think this gen theres a lot larger userbase for the different consoles than last gen.

There will never be a new Snes. Never.

Anyway, the seventh gen will be remembered for making gaming more public, kind of like TV. I am afraid where gaming may go from here.

Though online started with the Dreamcast, and took hold with the original Xbox, the 7th gen is where online really became the standard. From here on out games are going to get more and more 'interconnected'.

Im also sensing Sony will never quite recover from the shortcomings of the PS3. So this will be remembered as the generation that Sony fell from grace.
