Forums - General - So I finally Entered the HD Era

As of this morning, I am officially in the HD era, just got my HD TV, it's not that big but it's more than enough for me and a huge upgrade from my last tv.

It's a Vizio (cheapest HD TVs), runs at max 720p/1080i and is 26 inches in size which is more than big enough since I usually sit not that far from the screen.

So far I've Ninja Gaiden Sigma and the Heavenly Sword demo. Both looked fantastic, sadly NGS could go to 1080p but I won't get to see that, but I am more than happy with 720p. Both looked so much better in comparison to how they looked before that I'm definitely happy with the money I put down for this.

Just got my Wii back now and should be hooking it up soon, need to get those cables that allow 480p with the Wii (composite or component? I always confuse the two, but I'll know before I order it), and should be ready for Metroid Prime later this month.

Can't try any 360 games sadly as my 360 Red Ringed and I have to wait to get the fixed one back (the package to send it hasn't even arrived yet...) and I'm most looking forward to seeing Gears, Viva Pinata and Lost Planet on the new tv. I have seen these in HD before though, since I had the 360 connected to a monitor by way of vga cables so it won't be as huge a change as it was for PS3 game, but it will be much nicer on a bigger screen.

Got one other thing to do, I'm gonna go buy my first Blu Ray disc right now, and very suitably 300 just came out last week, just in time for me to get it now. Exactly the kind of movie that is very visually impressive and should be a great first HD movie experience on the tv.

Now, I gotta wait for Bioshock and Lair and see those in their amazing detail. Hopefully I'll have my fixed 360 back by then :)

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Very Nice! High Five!

Before I even opened this thread, I knew Dolla was going to do that.

Good to hear. I don't trust Vizio, though.

The way to remember composite/component is by the meanings of the words. Composite means put together, and the cable is called that because it puts all of the video signal together over one cable. Component sends the, well, components of the signal (two chrominance signals, and one luminance signal) over separate cables, giving a better quality picture.

Congratz on the new TV!! Don't worry about no 1080p, at 26 inches there would be no discernible difference at all. Hell, I hardly notice a difference between my 720p 42 inch and my friends 1080p 42 inch. So yeah, your games will look gorgeous. As Entroper said it's component cables that you want. They aren't too expensive and they really clean up the picture quality on the Wii.

Congrats Ck!
