No I'm not, it's not like PlayStation is a unknown brand. People won't see a advertisment of something they already know about and go "Wow, that PS3 thing looks cool, maybe I should like buy one!!111oneone"

no amount of advertising is going to entice someone who had no idea about the machine in the first place already to buy a 400 dollar console.

the purpose of advertising is to do that right? well its not going to work. its only going to convince those people who were planning to buy one already.

Advertising isn't only about awareness , it's also about increasing the brand name , recognition , popularity and so on.

Not spending a dime on advertising and lowering the price would be much better for their cause. People know what a Playstation is.

Agreed, for over a decade gaming in general has just been called "Playstation" (Of course this will change now with the Wii). Gamers and people in general  freaking know about the Playstation, a price cut would be MUCH better.

 I agree a price cut would be much better, but ur making it out like advertising will have a minimal effect on sales, i reckon if SONY did boost their advertising, they could get another 250 - 300k in the US only this holiday.

Hope they they take some of the interest off the 360 ad's here in europe, they are getting beyond a joke now it's not even interesting now!

In the USA I've seen plenty of PS3 ads. The problem I see is there is no consistent message. The ads are completely different every couple of months except for the logo screen.
